This build is on the second of the neon lime green blanks I bought on Ebay. The blank was painted with Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze. I used one of the Jann’s Netcraft Cork Handle kits with the slide ring style cork seat and cigar grip. The butt of the seat was not going to finish out well with the huge 'glass blank so I domed a Colorado State Quarter and epoxied it in lace for a butt cap. I used single foot TiCH guides wrapped with Chestnut and Bronze Metallic accents, no CP. You really have to look close to see the accent wraps. They kind of sneak up on you. A feather inlay finishes it off.
Just beautiful KB and that buttcap is really easy to replace should it go missing…i like it ! Makes me want to make an all cork grip and seat for something. Good job.
Unless you want to add accent cork or fancy rings, don’t make the grip/seat combo. I got this from Jann’s for $10. Decent cork and it’s all ready to go. Just ream and stuff it on.
Merkin,
Thanks for the kind words and welcome to FAOL! It’s a good group and everyone is willing to share info.
The state quarters make great butt caps or inserts to a fighting butt. I dome mine slightly so they don’t give a flat squared off look to the butt piece. Commemorative coins of all kinds, as long as they are the right size, work great on rods. I was going to inset one of the Lewis & Clark nickles, but didn’t have one handy.
Thanks for the tip KB, and good idea about adding accent cork and fancy rings…i’ve not done that yet so we’ll see how it goes. I haven’t bought a ‘store’ grip for a good long while now and i enjoy making my own, so no problem there.
I love that all cork handle and seat, I built a couple a few years ago, which pale in comparison, but the feel of the blank in your hand through the handle with a fish on is pure joy. Beautiful job Kevin.
