An Original Matthias Vise

I dug out my old Matthias vise as I thought some might be interested. Mr. Matthias discontinued them shortly after offering them back in the 90’s. Then, he “refined” them and began offering again a year or so ago. I think he was selling through eBay, if memory serves.

In the last several months, I haven’t been able to contact him.

He hasn’t made this version of jaws “The Midge Jaws” since the 90’s. I really like the clearance this set of jaws provides in the offset rotary position.

Byon,

It is a tricky balance to find between clearance, yet keeping the mass close to the center line. How light can you set the friction without the jaws ‘sagging’ to their lowest point?

Cheers,
Hans W

It requires a bit of friction, but allows tying in rotary and does a great job.

This vise, however, my daily vise, is a lot smoother as the design allows for less weight…

chuckle I am well familiar with what is your daily vise, just as you are of mine
