The pic of the stream is just beautiful - I can’t hardly imagine it without the snow after seeing it like that. Someplace I’d spend some time, given the chance, for sure.
Great colors on the fish and rod pics, and exquisite detail on the trout. What kind of camera are you using ??
WOW I love that stream, I have a love hate relationship with winter, I love winter trout fishing in beautiful streams like that one, but and there is always a but hate when winter comes and closes beautiful streams like that one… great rod and fish, I use a Pentax Optio w30 great camera and rugged!
We fished the Metilous a few years ago in the summer, was a delightful trip and got to meet more fellow FAOL anglers. The fish were cooperative and the whole setting was amazing…even got to see Pete’s Arabian horses!
near the hatchery? gotta love that crick. didn’t get to hit that river BUT had the pleasure of fishing the Met in early March, continuing my love affair with bull trout. lucky bastages, you guys out in CO!!!
That IS near the hatchery, but it was on the Fall River near Sunriver…my wife and I were staying with a friend of hers there who lived about a five minute drive from that spot…I almost bit the bullet and drove to the Metolius, but I’ll get to fish it plenty in May…
Excellent report and pics, thanks for sharing. Some of my best and certainly most memorable days have been when the white stuff is falling all around. Dead silence except for the slurping of feeding fish!
I thought that was the Fall River. That is one beautiful river and I believe my most favorite to fish. I would love to see the falls with all that snow around. Never fished it in the winter but hope to get to some day.
I figgered it was the Fall, looked like what my memory told me was the lower end of the hatchery stretch (the little outflow pipe on the bottom left maybe?). I didn’t have the time to hit it in March while my wife and I were in Bend…but it is a long-time favorite! your posts here and on westfly keep that flame burning bright, man.
Planning to get out again in June for a week, so please leave a few fish without sore lips!
while I think I did pretty well, I think the highlight of my time there was watching what I thought would be “Mr. Orvis” (all show, no dough) stand in the same spot (in the middle of the river) for about 3-4 hours pre & post hatch, catching fish after fish…every time I turned around he had a fish on, it was pretty incredible to watch considering that during the peak hatch period, the spot I was in produced a solid 5-6 fish for me and I think he easily had a dozen to hand in the same time span (perhaps 30-40 min.)
