Well, I headed to Santa Monica to toss some flies and got there at about 6:00am right when the sun was coming out, I couldn’t pass the chance to take a pic…

So, I started getting my fly gear ready, took my fly rod out of the case and sock and put it together. Time for the reel…um, where is my reel? Long story short the genius forgot the reel home. Good thing I also had a light spinning setup. I didn’t catch anything but it was nice to get my surf booties wet.
Don’t feel bad MM, i once drove 2.5 hours for steelhead only to find i had no fly reel. I carried a spare in the glove box of the truck
for a while after that. Now i pretty much don’t leave the garage with less than two flyrods and reels made up and ready to go, fly
on tippet and all.
Great sunrise pic btw.

I guess after seeing that sunrise I didn’t feel all that bad. Good thing I’m only 30 min from the beach.
Isn’t that the reason pickups have sliding rear windows for the rods to go through?
Martin, that’s a pretty ritzy neighborhood you fish in there in So. CA.
Well Uncle Jesse, i have a car these days and when i had put’s i had shells and could leave rods assembled if i was doing a driving hole hopping thing. But yes, if i din’t have a shell i could have left them assembled and sticking out the slider, yer right.
I’ve downsized and now i carry a double reel-on rod case, spare reels and spools, a few thousand flies, extra clothes and lots of water and a little food if i’m out all day.
Cheers,

It’s really not as fancy as it looks. I’ve been luckier two miles ahead but felt like trying that spot.
