All you SBSers

As a noob to fishing and tying, thanks for all the great fly’s to imitate and aspire to. And, since there are anywhere from one to 5 SBS on any given day, think one a week could be done up for the FOTW each week?

Of course, surely someone has already thought of this.

I like them just as well as Forum Posts.

Maodiver,

I believe that your tag line is intended to read “Trust but verify” .

As a first to say, I agree with you, when I have an SBS I send it to rtidd, and like you said; “there are anywhere from one to 5 SBS on any given day” but there’s been only 2-3 FOTW PER MONTH lately!
I should be sending in more I know, but I haven’t had the “Want” to do so because when I do (and my last one was AWESOME) I feel like nobody cares that I’m tying better! Okay Rant over

Tom, thanks for the support. I have seen some of your SBS, and they are awesome! The thing about the Fly of The Week is that it is all in one place. Parnelli, Swapmiester for us beginners, downloaded all the FOTWs and categorized them by type (dry, streamer, nymph, wet, etc.) and put them on a DVD. Great reference tool. I don’t think he could have done that from the forum.

The other factor is that the patterns in the threads will eventually disappear.

One sad thing is that Deanna and Neil have had to ask several times for people to contribute FOTWs to the twice monthly edition of the Home Page, but some folks don’t seem to care about supporting the FAOL website ( without which there is no FAOL Bulletin Board ) in that way. As Neil phrased it to me one time, roughly, without the twice weekly edition of the Home Page there is no reason for the FAOL website to exist.

The really sad thing is that once you’ve done an SBS for the Bulletin Board, it only takes a matter of minutes to put together a FOTW submission and send it to Neil, but it seems that is too much effort for some folks to make.

John

yep’! couldn’t have said it better!
and for me it is hard to send in a submission because most of the patterns I tie have already been in the FOTW.
You guys inspired me to do another, and I thank you for that  I haven’t really tied a decent fly since June because I haven’t been inspired, but low I’m gonna’ charge my camera and try and get an SBS FOTW together!

What is a SBS ? Let’s not start a “texting” language.
Older guys like me will never catch up.

Step-By-Step = SBS
I am 17 and it took me a while lol

Sorry Ray, I’m and older guy too, got 50+ New Years on TomS, and I had to ask myself. SBS = Step By Step

Glad to hear from youngsters like you Gordon. I’m sneaking up on 86. Started fly fishing when I got uot of the army in 1947.

What you whippersnappers doin’ worryin’ 'bout Spenard Builders Supply?

It is an Anchorage institution and has been around a lot longer than cell phones and laptops…

I only have four decades on Tom… So I may not have the whole picture.
