It was a long time ago, maybe 10 years, that I heard that Albolene and Gink were the same. When I first tried Gink it did seem to be the same as Albolene. But hey, I’m not a chemist. Supposidly, George Gerhke(sp?) just repackaged Albolene. Hey, it turned out great for him and fly fishers. Personally, I’ve been using Albolene as a floatant for about 40 years. Back then, I had heard about using it through someone(?) and since my mother used the stuff for its intended purpose, I just put some in a small tin. I’ve since learned to use a squeeze container that seals tight! A small jar will supply you and several fishing buddies several years worth of use. You just have to use a tiny bit. Do not glob up your fly.
minute as they may be lets keep putting pollutants on the fly and water…several million of us has no effect right…Mineral oil &
Petroleum can’t be good for the environment…or fish…
I looked at the Gehrke’s website (Gink’s manufacturer), they also make lubricating oils and waxes related to fishing, it would not surprise me to learn the ingredients are similar to Albolene with the exception of the beta carotene and maybe ceresin.
In the town where I live they fill the WD-40 cans. I have been told that it is a mineral sprirts base with
special waxes. Someome may have stated that in chemical terms earlier. Fishin’ Jimmy
PS I do not know what I would do without WD-40 or Ducktape!
I use to think Split Shot and lead was no big deal! The amount of lead in a split shot or some lead wire on a hook. [b]BUT AFTER SEEING A REGIONAL TV SHOW NORTLAND ADVENTURE LAST WEEK I HAVE A NEW OUTLOOK ON LEAD! THEY DID A FEATURE ON A WILDLIFE REHAB CENTER. THREE EAGLE WERE THERE FOR LEAD POISONING THIS FALL,ONE DIED! THEY STATED THAT STATED THAT LEAD AS SMALL AS A #6 BUCKSHOT CAN POISON AN EAGLE , A LOONS OR OTHERBIRDS OF PRY. iT’S A BIG JOB TO REPLACE
