Alaska Guide

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could recomend a guide for a day of fishing (trout, silvers)out of Anchorage Alaska? I would consider driving up to 2 hours or even a fly out for the right price. I will be in Alaska for a day on a flight layover the 18th of August. Thanks in advance. CFISHER

Last July I spent a day with Mike Caughlin of Susutna Valley River Guides out of Willow, AK. (About 90 miles north of Ancorage.) Caught some very nice rainbows. Check out the web site at:

Hope this helps.

If you head south or north check out Jerry Herrod

If you go North to the valley Mike Coughlin is a good guy too

Both Mike and Jerry are good suggestions. I know them both well, you will have a good experience with either.

If you don’t mind driving a little more than 2 hours to Cooper’s Landing in the Kenai, look up Fred and Stacy at http://www.mysticfishing.com/

I fished with them in 2005 and found their service, skills and knowledge of the Kenai to be first rate. Check out my trip report at the following link : http://www.fishingkaki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7104

Stacy also runs a first rate cabin by the river.

Aug is a great time to be on the Kenai River. You’ll likely encounter the Silver Salmon run and plenty of big Rainbows and Dollies. Have fun!

Thanks for the good advice now I just need to decide wether I want to drive north or south! CFISHER

Go south for size, north for Quiteness

I should also add the drive south is fantastic it is great I love that drive, the drive north is well plain and boring.IMO

Thanks for the links everyone - I’m planning a trip with a friend at the end of June/beginning of July to the Kenai peninsula for a 2-week trip. We already have a 4-day trip set up to Lake Clark, but plan on bumming around for the rest of the time on the KP looking for fish. I can’t wait and it’s only March.

cwtob, thanks for checking back in and good luck.

Well thanks again everyone. Looks like we have decided to go south to the big “K”. Then the next day we fly out to Kamchatka Russia!!! Can’t wait! CFISHER
