Well, the time has begun to set in motion our efforts to place a Memorial Bench in Rapid City to honor Al Campbell. The bench will be placed at the Cleghorn Springs Hatchery in Rapid City where so many visitors will get to learn a little about him. I know many of you have tied flies to help raise the funds (over $1100 is what is needed).
The first full set of flies will be available on EBay starting at 7:15 tonight Pacific time. This is a full set of all the flies tied. As things get rolling, there will be sets of one and possibly two dozen flies available at a more affordable price for those of us that have tighter budgets.
I know this has been a long time coming, and I wish we could have started sooner, but lets look to the future and the bench we will soon get to place for all time.
The auction number is listed below. If you have any questions, please let me know here on the boards or through e-mail.
Thanks to all of you for your help in this worthy cause.
Matt, was fantasic and really made an extra effort to get us boxes, even going so far as to reconfigure the bugger barn so that it held the variety of flies and we eneded up with a one of a kind box for the set.
I realize that a couple hundred bucks might be a bit tough for some folks (even though it’s about $2 a fly and the fly box cost) to lay out in one shot but I thought I’d suggest if that’s the case for some try pooling resources with someone (or two) and bid on the flies. Then you can divide them up between yourselves.
It’s a good cause and these auctions are our only shot at raising the $'s for the memorial.
Don’t forget, folks. I will be splitting up some of the sets into smaller groups of 1 dozen and putting them up too (as soon as the boxes get here). Those sets will be around $15. There will be plenty of notice when those go up on the auction block. All extra money raised will be donated to local groups that Al supported such as 4H and the Boy Scouts.
As always, please send me an e-mail if you have any questions.
Thanks and have a great night.
It’s a shame that you are only willing to ship inside the United States. I have seen comments on some other sites from people who wanted to bid on these but were from Canada and therefore were excluded from supporting the memorial project.
FAOL is a global community and i think it is a shame to exclude so many people from supporting this very worthwhile project.
I’ll tell you what. I never gave it much thought. The SHip to the United States Only was a default from other things I have sold on EBay. I would gladly ship to other countries. I just need to figure out postage and stuff.
Please let others you come across know this. I will amend the auction.
I will let some of my fellow Canucks know that they can bid on the flies now.
Shipping to Canada shouldn’t be too much more than to the USA, and from my experience shipping overseas unless the package weighs quite a bit isn’t all that bad either.
I have many years of expertise on mailing internationally, and the addition postage, is not that exorbitant for overseas small packet. If anyone ever needs advise, or help, I can direct them on resources and general rules under the IMU (International Mailing Union), which is comprised of all the postal services throughout the world.
Mailing Internationally is quite simple, with reference to the IMM (International Mail Manual) for the country where you are mailing the article.
OK, folks. The first round of small sets is making their way to EBay. One should be there now. A set of 12 from Al Corey will be on at 7:00 PM Pacific time, and I will try and get one more on now before work (but it’s not looking too good). Most of these sets start at $15.00, while the set from Al Corey starts at $20.00 because of the additional efort put into the matching signature cards and stories for each fly.
I have set it up so that what you see is what you get. You will be able to read the list of tiers for the set you are bidding on, so if you are looking for a particular tier, you have a shot. Don’t wait too long, though. I don’t know how many sets will be split up (but I do promise a minimum of 3 which equates to 21 sets of 1 dozen). Happy bidding and, if the rumors are true that there may be a Fish-In in the Black Hills next year, you can count on a Memorial Service AT the bench. See you soon.
