or an implanted defibrillator?

Has anybody who has one implanted had any problems with the security people at the airports???

I have all of the documentation from the TSA web site regarding implanted devices but would like to know your personal experience going through security checkpoints at airports. I also have a card telling the security people that I have an implanted device. I know you can request a personal search vs being wanded.

I’m flying to Bozeman the 3rd week in September to fish in the YNP area.

Actual experiences only, please no speculation.

Don’t worry about it … it is very common. Just take your card and request a private search - they have a little area for that. Just get there VERY early - the latest terror threat really has things messed up. Best to really limit your carry-on items.

P.S. I know what I am talking about, I fly for a living - at least until December 31 when I retire. Starting next year, I am walking everywhere - no more planes, I don’t care if the ticket is free.

Just what Jim said,"you have to tell them and then one guy will use the wand .No big deal.I traveled from FT Laud to Atlanta to Denver and back
with NO problems.

I thought you were not supposed to be wanded in?

Ask for a hand search and do not let them use a wand. It’s possible the wand could set the device off. I’ve never had a problem asking for a hand search once they see the card.

You know NORMAND is right.Show your card and ask for a hand search. Although on me they did use the wand.(Now I recall my wife saying why did you let them do that).

The hand wand can be used, just not within the general proximity of the implant. So to use it from the waist down, around the arms, etc. would be OK - anywhere else would be a NO-NO. Get one of those within 6-12" of the implant and you could be in trouble. TSA is not supposed to use it on you period, but always be polite - if in doubt, ask for a supervisor - they are better trained. Just remember your implant card - and with the heightened state of security, realize that they might be extremely cautious. Again, get there early. The good news is that millions of people carry these devices - so it IS normal for TSA folks.
