Airflow salmon/steelhead poly leaders...

howdy flyfishers…

any of you steelheaders out there ever use the airflow polyleaders?

just askin’ since I’m new to flyfishing and am trying to decide on the proper leader tackle for getting my line/fly down to the fish… I’d use some fluoro carbon tippet and all the joinery would be with loops as these leaders come with a loop at the end.

I’m thinking extra fast sinking would be the best choice. This I could use on my WF floating line.

thanks for any input.

I’ve only used them for trout, but have had great success. For steelhead I would expect them to be successful in slow to moderate currents, but you’ll likely need something like a t-400 to really get down in heavy water.

Rio also makes them, just so you know.

TWS,

Used to use 'em and they work quite well. No problems landing really big fish.

The tippet should stay real short (about 12-16 inches), 'else the fly ends up floating UP above the leader and you lose a bit of the effect of sinking a leader.
