Aids to casting

I started to tell all the things that I’ve learned that last few months of lessons but realized that I couldn’t without stealing someone elses information. (namely Allen Crise and Lefty Kreh)

I will say this. If your serious about fly fishing you really should take some lessons. Why? Because you can’t see what your doing. An instructor can really improve your casting.

I watched Fly Fishing the World the other day and had to change the channel. The unnamed guest was such a bad caster I couldn’t stand to watch. I’m sure if he knew how bad he was he wouldn’t have let himself be filmed. My point here is he didn’t know he was doing it all wrong. Neither did I. After taking lessons I can see a huge improvement in my casting and enjoy fishing much more.

If you can’t find an instructor I suggest buying “Lefty Kreh on Fly Casting”. It’s awesome!

Jargo, …

I know how you feel.

I used to believe I was an elegant figure when I was casting.

Horror!! Someone filmed me once … I still have nightmares about it

Then again, … I DO have a heck of a lot of fun, … my fly (usually) goes where I look and the line mends itself now. I just won’t be making any TV appearances (anymore).

I usually fish alone, so I really don’t care how I look as long as the cast seems to be fine…but I am hoping to get some lessons later this summer so we’ll see how the late season catch and release goes.
