Agood day on the Battenkill

Sunday am went out for about 1 1/2 hours came home and went back out at 5:15 pm for another 2 hours. Both outings I caught
well. The day was overcast and thunderstorms threatened all day.
There were dark greyish brown caddis hatching all day long, but I
was not interested in matching the hatch.I tied on a bead head
caddis emerger and started catching right off, so for the full time out both trips I stayed with the same general idea just switching
up on colors. I wound up with 2 16 inch 1 13 inch and a bit more than a dozen 9 to 12 inch brownies.I also managed to miss probably about a dozen or so more.I don’t mind missing them because I fish nymphs with no indicator or large dry suspending it.I enjoy the challenge of fishing strictly by feel. The beautiful brownies were biting very lightly but my Orvis T3 is very sensitive and I could feel the slightest bite while sweeping 40 feet of line down the bank. Yes,even though I could feel them the little brownies were quicker than me and got away. I wound up catching and releasing my share and can’t wait til later in the week to try it again.Begging your pardon not a good day but a great day.
thanks for stopping by to read my fish story Todd

Nice adventure, thanks for posting it! 8)

Todd,
Thanks for your great report! Your plan worked great!
I have had good luck fishing a beadhead (gold) Hare’s Ear nymph for browns, but you may already know about that fly.
Thanks,
Doug

Ahh friday night the work week is over .Got home had dinnerand instead of cracking open an ice cold beer ,I decided to relax in a different way .I threw my fly rod in the car and pulled out of my driveway at 730 pm .Ahalf hour later I was dropping my favorite nymph into the cool Battenkill water.oh,my favorite nymph,it is an olive beadhead caddis emerger ,I guess I would call it my go to nymph. Once again the browns were rising to dark greyish brown caddis. This didn’t phase me cause they were also jumping on my nymph. An hour and a half later I was making my way out
after catching and releasing 2 14 inch and 4 10 to 11 inch browns .I made my way through the woods and into a dark field which about 2 million fireflies lit up for me. Well thats it for me have a good weekend everybody tight lines Todd
