Only $10 and for life? No wonder we’re going broke as a nation.

Nonetheless, since it’s available and I qualify it’s probably the patriotic thing to get one. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for posting–I thought I had to be 65.

I also thought it was age 65, so guess I better get one soon.

Here is some data I collected from the internet. You can’t buy it on line but only in person.

One of the best senior travel bargains anywhere is a low-cost lifetime national park pass that admits seniors free of charge to most U.S. national parks, forests, refuges, monuments and recreation areas, from Denali National Park in Alaska to the Florida Everglades.

Senior Pass Eligibility

As part of the American the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass program, U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are at least 62 years old can purchase a Senior Pass for a one-time processing fee of $10. This Senior Pass to national parks and lands offers benefits to you and your traveling companions.

Senior Pass to National Parks Benefits

?In National Parks that charge an entrance or standard amenity fee, the Senior Pass admits you and the passengers in your car or other private vehicle.
?In National Parks where a “per person” entrance fee is charged, the Senior Pass admits you plus three other adults (who need not be seniors). This is an especially good deal if you are also traveling with grandchildren, because children under 16 have free admission.
?The lifetime national parks Senior Pass also gives seniors a 50 percent discount on federal use fees charged for camping, swimming, boat launching, parking and tours.
?In some cases where use fees are charged, only the person named on the Senior Pass will be given the 50 percent discount.
?The senior pass is non-transferable and does not cover or reduce special recreation permit fees or concession fees charged by private companies.

How to Buy a National Parks Lifetime Senior Pass
The Senior Pass to national parks cannot be purchased by mail or online. It must be purchased in person at a federal area where entrance fees are charged, or at regional offices of the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Proof of age, such as a valid driver’s license, is required at the time you purchase your senior pass.

For more information about the National Parks Lifetime Senior Pass, call the National Park Service at 1-888-ASK-USGS.

AND, if you can swing it, get one EVERY year. I don’t recall the current entry fee per car for the “under-aged” BUT $10 to get into Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier,Great Smokey Mtn National Parks is a pittance for the pleasure I derive from them. Happy to pay the fee every year.

I posted primarily because of the age thing. I also thought it was age 65. Guess I look young (not!) cuz the rangers staffing the entrance booth to RMNP have not told me about this in 2 years when I qualified, but paid for an annual pass.

Fine! I’m gonna say it today!
One day when I’m in charge of the gub’ment…
10$ lifetime pass to all vets…

DD+214=10bucks for life.

soon soon soon

'F yer a vet on disabillity, guess what? YOU QUALIFY!!

13 years till I qualify. By then, they will have raised the age to 97. Just like with Social Security, by the time I’m eligible, one will have to be dead in order to qualify.:(:frowning:

Just a reminder to those who are about to become eligible. If your spouse is older than you get the pass in his/hers name. Thats what i did.

Got mine in July, couple of days after my 62nd b day. Got one for the wife too. So I don’t have to go to the day park, with all the grand kids.

I got mine one day when I was at the ranger station in Big Bear, CA to get a day pass for parking in the area. Lady looks at me and sez, “Are you over 62?” “I am” sez I. She sold me one on the spot. $5.00 for a day pass vs $10.00 for a lifetime. You betcha. I’ve gone to 9 national parks with that “get in” free card. I can park at trailheads, rivers and beaches free, and in most campgrounds it costs 1/2 of the nightly fee. Maybe if all the baby boomers get one it will help the economy. WHOOPPEE.

Is this the same as the Golden Passport I have? I don’t know where it is to look at it. Can’t remember if it is called Golden Age Passport or Golden Passport. Supposed to be a lifetime card and 1/2 price at campgrounds. I better go find the thing. Or go buy another one.

Nobody above mentioned Golden Passport I don’t think…so am wondering if they are the same.

Jim, It’s the same thing, different name. Mine is called simply, “Senior Pass”

I’ll be 62 next month. I do believe I’ll get one of those passes. Now, if they would just come out with a 50% off card for seniors toward the purchase of gasoline, more of us would be able to visit some of our national treasures. :o

Thank You Jimbo

I turned 62 in March, heard about the pass on line, few days after birthday went down to nearest USFS paid my $10 and smiled all the way home. Been camping and fishing all over Idaho this summer and pass has worked beautiful, saved many $$$. If your turning 62 soon GOT to get senior pass, old (golden age pass) still good, changed names first of year, lifetime pass for $10 dollars best deal around!!!
