I have noticed that fish bite better right after a large rain has cleared. I always wondered why. It could be as simple as more things floating in the water. I have a different idea. I think the gully washers displace them temporaily. They are in search of “THEIR” regular eating lane. Their “house”. They are not comfortable where they are. If a meal comes by they are oppurtunists. I have caught many decent fish after a Gully Washer clears.
This photo is of a beaver dam that was recently washed. The shallow rocks and debris the angler was standing on is a dead give away of a washed out beaver dam. Just to the right of the photo is 5 feet deep hole in a typically very narrow shallow stream. Angler was rewarded nicely .
yep, i spend almost all my fishing time in stillwater…and after rain they seem to go crazy. rising, hammering flies, anything.
its super fun. 8)
jeeze, you always have BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS.makes me jealous haha
I think it’s the combination of more nutrients being pushed into the water, as well as, the rising barometeric pressure and incresed oxygen levels, from the rain.
My take on it is that more bugs and worms, ect have been washed into the waterways.
With the lowered visiblity the fish have less time to decide and they take it faster.
There is alot of written material to fish the mudline anytime you can find it on a body of water.

Well I think you are all correct AND
I think it is just a little bit of a gift from heaven/God, the GODS or what ever… I have fallen in a few times and been face to face with the trout but never had the presents of mind to ask why they bit more after the rain stops or during it for that matter…
ya how do you explain the still waters exploding during a rain storm or just after the rain stops ???
I read once that in some high mountain lakes the wind carries “BUGS” up and when it passes over the lake(s) it drops the bugs due to the different pressure the lake air causes… who know… I just like when it happens and look up or down at the water and say “Hay man thanks” to whom ever is listening …
long day at work thought I would throw that out there
