and a new section
Tummel flies
http://donaldnicolson.webplus.net/page523.html

Hi Donald,

Love those flies. I’m especially interested in what the fish think of them - those tied on the long shank and your “modernized” versions. Have you had them on the water? Please let us know if/when you do. Take care & …

Very nice. The “modernized” Tummel flies would probably suit the modern angler’s fancy more, but when I get a chance to spend a bit of time fishing one of the expeirments I want to try is to fish a collection of flies tied in the old Tummel style. There are some streams where small flies would do well, and the need to get deep quickly is also there. I think that recreates the original pressures that lead to the original idea. I suspect the fish will not be so dissmissive.

Donald, thanks for yet more beautiful flies. These last few days I got to make good progress on the Mike Harding book on North Country wets. I have enjoyed it.
Have you ever used TMC 2499 SP BL hooks for your wets?

I hope that you have a merry New Year!

Thank you for this wonderful stuff! Love they way these look.

Hi

I thought I would tie some of these, and just put together Turton’s Barm Fly. I later noticed there was a version already tied of this on your site, where it’s just a black tip rather than half the body in black. That looks good too!

Nice looking fly Jeff.

Donald, as always fantastic information.

Thanks TyroneFly,

I’m always inspired when I check out Donald’s site. A lot of great patterns there that still catch fish today.

A great dressing Jeff, I have put it in the article, hope you don’t mind.
Anybody else who would like to try a dressing, and post it here, I will
consider it for inclusion. When there are a good number of pictures,
I will make a .pdf of it.

I have modified the section on Turton’s Flies. The pictures have been re-organised.

Hey Jeff,

You have been immortalized on Donald’s website. :sunglasses:

Hi,

I just noticed this, and I would be honoured to have my fly on your site. Thanks Donald.

 • Jeff

P.S. The hook it is tied on is a Tiemco hook, TMC107SP size 10. I suspect it would be better suited to a size 12 or 14, but the hackle I had at hand was too large.

I just thought I’d announce some more additions to Turton’s flies.

SWEET Donald !!!

I like that Varivas hook…
