Jeff, don’t know why you put on the winking smilie? We both have been tying these things to know that substituting one type of hackle for another reduced the fish catching ability of those flies by 75%. :twisted:

A spider, then she rightfully tied it on a straight eye, 2 extra short shank hook, after carefully pinching down the barb, or she may have gone old school and armed the hook with one strand of horse hair or silkworm gut in line with the hook shank. :twisted:

I have a few fly patterns that calls for the tail feathers from a Phoenix, which are very rare! But if you can find some their use in the fly pattern are pure magic for catching fish. ~Parnelli :rolleyes:

Don’t those Phoenix feathers require washing a lot of ash out of them before use on a fly. Never actually saw any, but have heard rumors.
