Hi Kevin,
Incredible rod. I am truly impressed, with the rod, and with the thought. I hope your brother appreciates it for the labor of love that it is.
Regards,
Gandolf

Sooooo, did he get it yet? You HAVE to let us know how it goes!
TT
It’s funny, I was just asked this same thing over on another forum.
I was going to wait until his birthday in May to send it to him. The poor guy Was born and raised in Colorado but has been forced to live in Texas of all places for the past 25 years for his job. I was thinking earlier today it would be better to send it now so he can get a reel and maybe some casting lessons before spring runoff is finished.
I will get it in the mail and let everyone know what the reaction is.
Wow Kevin,
Great rod. Really enjoyed the story behind it. Thanks
Beaver
Wonderfull, just perfect. Thanks for shareing.
Tom has his rod. I’m not quite sure what to make of his response so far other than he really likes the rod. He did say he would be “showing it off to all of his friends that know the difference between a rod and a pole.”
I guess that means he won’t be showing it to his “Stick and String” Tenkara buddies? (duckin’ and runnin’)
KB,
I’m sure he’s blown away, especially if he’s going to be showing it off. Perhaps the significance of his gift has his mind working…breaking down the walls so to speak.
TT.
OK. I got a real reply from Tom. The first only mentioned that he would show it to those who might know the difference between a rod and a pole and he would write more later.
From what he wrote, his wife told him that if he didn’t appreciate it and the effort involved, he was the biggest “jerk” (paraphrased) in the world. He hauled it all over the Dallas Fort Worth area today showing it to friends and co-workers. It went to work with him and from the sounds of things, he got nothing accomplished because this vet and that vet wanted to see it and then took him over to someone else to see it. After work, it went to Bass Pro with him where he shoots on Tuesdays and he got drug all over the store to show it to this guy or that. I don’t know if he got any shooting done. Finally, a niece I have never met told him to tell me “thank you” from her.
I’d say he liked it. The part of the note I didn’t mention told me that it didn’t break down walls so much as open doors which is what I wanted to do.
Kev that’s VERY cool man. Sounds like he liked it and also sounds like from all the response, not only did everyone else like it lol, but, maybe he see’s “why” you did it for him. I’ve only known ya for about a year now, but if I was him, I’d be thinking “hey, Kevin is a pretty good guy, maybe it’s time we talked a bit more”![]()
I hope this does help to open a better relationship between you guys. For the year I have known ya from FAOL & RBF you seem like one hell of a nice guy, I wish you and your Brother nothing but the best my friend!
Steve
Kevin, That is AWESOME!!! Thank you very much for sharing the pictures and especially the story behind the build. The service ribbons, IN order, is especially great touch. Hopefully this will help to close the gap between you two. Take care and thanks again, John.
Anyone that builds rods know how much love and care went into making that rod for your brother. It looks like he is very proud to show it off to folks that realize that, too. Good job, Kevin.
