A Stone Mountain Park Saturday

As far as reporting the fishing, it was memorable.
Lovely native browns and brookies. Sorry, no fish porn.
I figure we’ve all seen hundreds of pictures of small stream fish.
As for me, I let 'em go back to their little nooks as soon as possible…no fumbling with pictures.

If interested, here are some pictures of a couple of streams in the Park
and the rod and reel I was wielding this fine day…

Here are a couple of pics of Widow Creek Falls.
I know as Falls go it’s rather diminutive, but believe me when I say this Creek’s name is well deserved…

Here’s the “Home Pool” for Bullhead Creek…

Some other photos of Bullhead and a couple pics of the rod and reel I most enjoyed fishing today…

Tight Lines,

That’s a real purty area there Bobby. Thanks for the photos. Jim

Bob -

Great series of pics.

Looks like a place I would enjoy spending time, which means I would fish there. No doubt you have the same feel for it.

John

P.S. The thing about fish pics - from stream to stream and place to place, there are often notable difference among the fishies of the same species. I think that is why I never get tired of the fish pics. Just to know what those little critters from N.C. look like, for example.

Beautiful photo’s Bobby.
I’ve fished that area some. Last time I was up that way Bullhead was pitifully low with the drought conditions last year. I’m assuming that it’s looking fine now with the wet summer / fall we’ve had?
Which beat did you fish?

Hey bobby,

Gorgeous pictures of God’s country there; now, how about filling us in on that exquisite tackle: what’s the rod, reel, etc.

Thanks, Jim

I see your point John. I have never thought of it from that perspective.
I, personally, just like to handle the little critters as little as possible.
I certainly have no problem with others photoing their catch with due consideration
for the fish.

Yes Darrin, the water levels are good now. Clear as gin, eliciting extreme spookiness from the natives. I fished #8. As you can tell, some of the pics are of other beats.

Jim, the rod is a Heddon trade rod built for Lyon & Coulson. It’s a 7 1/2’ 2 piece Featherweight, perfect with a DT4. Very nice slightly slow medium action. The reel is an Orvis Battenkill Featherweight built by J.W. Young. Sold by Orvis in the sixties, I believe?

Were there any fish in the practice pool?
The last time I was at Bullhead a few years ago, it seemed like the state isn’t treating that stream as they once did.

You’re quite right Jackster!
I didn’t give it a try but didn’t see any fish either.

There were a couple of other fellows who had just stopped to take a look at the pool and they were most unhappy!
The fishery is not what it once was!!

Bob, wonderful report, thanks for sharing. Hopefully you’ll report on your success with those BWO wets you like to fish with. Looking forward to more.

Kelly.

Great pics, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing, that is a beautiful piece of country. I hope to get a chance to visit there some day.

Very pretty. Thanks. It’s nice to see how much of the world still has bits of paradise in it.

Great pics and report, nice looking area, widow falls seems a good name, those kind of falls seem to fool alot of folks, looks like a walk in the park until you realize its almost just like walking on ice. Very nice looking set up too. thanks again for sharing your trip…

Grubb,

You’re dead-on (pun intended!).

I know of two men (not personally) who lost their lives trying to climb up that little Falls! The last one almost gave my Dad a heart attack as he knew I was fishing in the Park that day!

Let’s all be careful out there!

Look at all the people out there from NC!

I haven’t been to Stone Mountain yet. South Mountain and the Wataga have been my go to waters. Stone looks much like some of the water at South. Great pictures!
