Betty -
Same type of experience from Dan Craft except that he responded to both my e-mail and the phone call a coupla weeks later. Each time he said he’d mail a catalogue the next day. That was mid-August 2004. Mail mist be real slow from there to here. Bought materials to build 3 rods elsewhere and will continue to do so.
Betty, I for one appreciate your effort in tying flies for the Kids Day of Fishing. I expect that some of the kids either do, or will in the future. It may be that decades from now one of them will have grown into another Ted Trueblood and mention the effects of your efforts. He/she might not know your name, but would be thankful all the same. A lot of these actions take a long time for the good that they do to blossom to full maturity. Then they can go on to touch other generations.
What you did, what any of us do, when we do things like this is to plant a seed. We may never see it germinate, let alone mature. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t vital, nonetheless. (Jimsonweed seed can sprout after 90 years.) Relax and take the planter’s pleasure at a job done well and hope that the crop sprouts and is nourished and tended by others.
You might feel like a potted plant, but you might well have been a more prolific plant than you know. Even a potted plant can provide the seed for a forest.
Hey there Betty;
It seems to me that the “person” for which you were doing this favor needs a bit of “enlightenment” ar at least your reassessment of your relationship with him/her.
Overworked, bored and unappreciated with 500 miles return trip home does not a pretty scenario paint.
Your kindness and consideration, however, are not unacknowledged. You can share MY stream anytime.
Mark
PS: My parents,of course, and the mandatory military draft taught me discipline and manners and about life.
I’d rather be in Wyoming!

I am not going to purchase Mr. Savage’s book to read about his hatred for the left. The thing is I agree with much of what Mr. Savage has to say I just don’t care much for his delivery and I am not going to encourage his style of bashing by buying his book. I have read many passages from his books and a couple of reviews on “Liberalism is a Mental Disorder” in particular. That was enough for me.
Hi there Betty. It sounds like to me that if you can tye a couple of hundred flys in seven hours, you should be putting on some paid seminars.
I know you’ve got a lot of class because you went out of your way to pick me up that nice portable material storage case at Dicks. I really do appreciate your consideration and that case packs nicely on my motorcycle. I like that your assertive and insist on proper treatment. after all, it’s only fair. WAY TO GO!!----John Taylor
Betty, I’ll better Daves offer. Thank you verry verry much (in advance) for all the flies you will tie for me and mail to me. I will gladly pay a paultry amount for the postage. email me and I’ll send you my address.
Seriously. Is there a comopany returns policy still available? If so, return and repurchase (elsewhere). Write the OS manufacturer to see if they will help.
As for the fly tying, let them know how you feel. They should be told that they have forgotten their responsibility and that it is not okay!
I’m feeling much better today. Headed to a NEW FLY FISHING store in Lawrence! And Bass Pro had settled on a new store to be built about two miles from out house!! (open mid 2006)
I did write to the person who invited me to the Kid’s day…four weeks ago. Still haven’t heard anything. The head of the hatchey thanked me profusely, as did the kids…for them I’d do it again.
We’re not talking salmon flies here. Most of them were jig heads, bead heads, leeches, etc. Each child got to tell me what he/she wanted to have, and in what colors. We had some pretty “impressive” flies…all fishable. One cute thing…a little girl, when asked what fly she wanted said, “A pheasant tail nymph, right Daddy?” Daddy got a pheasant tail nymph, and the little girl got a bead head with 4 colors of marabou, and flash!
I wrote a letter to the Sales Manager of the Micro Center (local) and future CC’d to their headquarters, Apple, the bank that carries their credit card, and to Problem Solvers at the KC TV station, those letters to be sent if I’m not totally satisfied with the response from the SM. Stay tuned!
Still have heard nothing from Dan Craft. Got my stuff elsewhere. Oh, well!
You all have made me feel like a million bucks! It’s so great to have a family that believes in you!
Just thought I’d follow-up my comment, and to respond to a few that correlate manners and decency to political persuasion: There isn’t any! You either have them or you don’t. For whatever reason, the person/people who were responsible for that event apparently fall into the latter.
Allan, it isn’t about ‘political’ anything - your misunderstood. We had Dr. Spock, remember? No correcting kids? No responsibility? No injuring their precious self-esteem? A couple of generations of that and we have parents who don’t know any better because it is the way “they” were raised. Now add no religion in schools, no morals, no ethics, the ACLU who actually once were for actual values but now support and defend the raping of children…just what do you expect? And you know what? It will get worse.
I didn’t read Dr. Spock and if I misunderstood what you meant, I apologize. It would be interesting to learn the age(s) of the organizers of the event.
This is the only controversial thing I will say on here. It is interesting to hear the exchanges about Dr. Spock, and how Liberalism has ruined America. We may not have prayer in school, and some other things but we also don’t have segregation, everyone can vote including women, and at last check more diverse people are being accepted. I consider myself a conservative, but both conservative and liberal are terms that have been changed/and exagerated to meet everyone’s definition. I am sure that the book in question that LadyFisher is a fine reference, the only thing I have issue with is when “problems” are blamed on one group, or a “simple” answer is given to a problem. For example I never understood the prayer in school, what is the purpose? Would the problems of society be fixed if students prayed in school? What about other religions, would you subject them to praying to God in christian eyes (meaning the trinity) even though they have different beliefs? The Constitution ensures that everyone has the freedom of religion, and the right to happiness regardless of what their religion, race, sexual preference, hair color, creed, height, weight, etc… and those that supress individuals rights are simply unamerican and ignoring the supreme law of the land that overrides god’s will, no matter their intentions or hopes. Why do you ask am I a conservative, because I beleive in people’s inherit right to live their lives how they want without government’s interference, to be able to enjoy free commerce, to be able to choose what company they want to build/construct/tear down without being forced to choose a certain company by the government. I feel that it is soley the parents responsibility to raise their children, yes I agree that grandparents, teachers, friends have a great influence on children, but when the sh** hits the fan, it is you as a parent to take the responsibility to not be a friend but be a parent. I could go on, but I don’t expect anyone to share my beliefs, nor would I ever criticize or downgrade someone with different beliefs, (not saying that happens/happened here) but just in general. By the way I am 30 years old, been married for 9 years, have 2 children. Never once prayed in school, but instead prayed at home and church, said the Pledge of Allegiance in school (should still be done), and love my family and parents with all my heart.

A bum-legged old man and a drunk. That’s all you got?
That’s WHAT I got.
Betty, Glad u have rebounded nicely. You sound much better today. You can’t keep a good person down. I too was blown away by 200 flies in 7 hours, I don’t care how simple the pattern! I’m still a slow tier. Good luck with the computer woes…Jim
Deanna (aka LadyFisher)…my dear…not doing any fishing for a while due to surgery on my stripping hand. Yes; I tried getting my thumb and forefinger together but the bandage prevents it.
Be patient - and, work towards getting out of Iraq and bringing the troops back here.
There’s no threat to us over there…these “live and let live”, Perrier with a twist morons, don’t have a clue. There’s a much greater threat right here in the USA. And, before you reply with some crap from Alan Colmbes or Ted Kennedy my liberal friends…consider my 30 years in law enforcement and the weekly updates you’re not privvy to.
Oh, by the way, shouldn’t you and JC be considering offering 12 or 15 translations of this board? And, free fishing licenses to all who migrate here?
Hey there ZimRX;
You seem to suggest that prayer or religion in schools is something absolutely useless. I hope you would agree that religion is a kind of discipline with all the possible meanings of " discipline" intended.Would it solve societies problems? I suggest NOT. But, would it or could it possibly hurt or increase them? I also suggest NOT. The free practice of ones religion implies an adherence to some kind of moral compass which in the case of most religions points away from those things which are generally accepted as “evils” and toward those which are honorable or good. I said " generally" because in these politically correct times,there ARE some questions ( not all illigitimate). Can anyone argue against any of the ten commandments? They may not be accepted by ones particular religion as it’s backbone but can you argue against the thesis they suggest?
The opposite of EVERYTHING I have stated above is NO RELIGION and NO MORAL COMPASS. I don’ want to suggest here that my " opposite" scenario is always bad. Maybe you ( generic) don’t need such a compass to do the " straight and narrow", but, please don’t even try to take away mine. I needed it to teach my children and they need it to teach my grandchildren and they’ll need it to…
