A Grand Day (and a nice brown!)

I went fishing on the Grand River (Ontario) yesterday armed with a sculpin pattern I created just for the occasion. On the third drift through a productive run I hooked and landed this guy.

What a Grand day!!!

Nice! and at the hands of your own tie…

Nice!!! I’m jealous

 VERY nice! Ain’t it grand (pun intended.)

That is one beautiful fish! I think I am learning where the term “Bite This” came from. Your cork probably has teeth marks from holding on tight? What fly did you use?

Beautiful fish…congratulations…

Hey Jonzee,

I was using a sculpin pattern of my own design (a mix and match of various sculpin patterns - very easy to tie).

I turned a number of good browns yesterday (in the 15 inch range) and, as I indicated, that big one took on the third drift.

Needless to say, I’ll be at the tying bench this weekend making a few more of those little gems!

Cheers,
Andrew

Nice fish for sure Good On Ya. How did that cork grip taste? Ron

fishy! it tasted fishy!
Nice fish.I just moved from my tying desk where I was experimenting with a new sculpin pattern also.I’m using magnetic tape as a base to give the fly a really broad flat profile, takes awhile for the epoxy to set up in the prep work but the finished flies look pretty good.Hopefully I will get to try them out this weekend.

Hey Andrew,

Are my eyes deceiving me, or is that a piece of cane that you caught that fine Brown on?

Give us the 411 on your stick!

Terry

 Congratulations on such a fine catch. I have a friend in Inglewood Ontario, at the Forks of the Credit, who has always told me that I should get down to join him for a day of fishing the Grand River…after seeing that photo, perhaps I should get more serious about his offer! Well done!

Andy,

    What a great fish! You must be very pleased to have planned the fly pattern you were going to use in advance and then have it work so well. Congratulation, you certainly deserve that fine fish. 8T

Hey Akalooker,

Sorry, that’s not a bamboo rod in my teeth - it’s a Sage Launch 4 wt. with a Orvis BBS II Battenkill reel. It performed extremely well, and I was able to handle the fish without too much problem. I must say, my right wrist was tired by the end of the fight!

Hey Andrew,

Well do to the photo being just a little out of focus, I thought that Sage Launch looked a little like a Boo, right color wrong rod!

Fine fish, and sounds like it put up a great fight to.

Thanks for the 411.

Terry

That’s what it is all about! Dream a dream, tye a fly, cast your line, catch your fish.

That is a nice brown. I have not hooked into a brown yet. I would love for one like that to be my first. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Yes, A very nice fish… I think you should post a pic of the fly upclose so we can see it!
