A geology lesson

At my age, and living in Connecticut, the land of free stone streams I am greatly handicapped to the extent that I don’t flyfish any more. I am still very active in tying but can’t risk wading on those slimy bowling balls. Does anyone have knowledge of any flatland streams that are available to me? Thanks

Come to the Michigan fish in next year. The Au Sable is nearly flat and mostly shallow thru-out the area around Gate’s lodge. Some folks even refer to it as old man’s water. Even below the dam at Mio the Flamming boys were able to wade and catch trout even though I don’t believe either one is four feet tall.

Ray,
My favorite water to fish is the St. Joe in northern Idaho. It’s a freestone river and I can’t wade it any more at all. Not only do I look like a drunk trying to walk on ball bearings, I can’t even just stand still in it any more. So, I’ve taken to sitting down when I fish. I use a portable kneeling garden bench, and it makes fishing the St. Joe possible for me.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about what Cabela’s calls a Walkstool. Portable, fastens to your belt & 3 legged. Kind of spendy, but if it works…

Hope that helps some.

That’s a great idea Lotech…I look much like you describe also. I gotta be real careful since I had a new hip installed last year. I been feet up/ butt down, wet & bruised all I care to…ModocDan

About the tripod stool: Please be careful. I have a similar one from Eastern Mountain Sports (a large outfitter store) and tried to use it. They are very unstable and prone to tipping over. If one leg is on softer soil you’ll end up on the ground as I was on two occasions.

Ray,
Thanks for the heads-up. Or feet-up as it may be.
