Think spring!

Think spring!

after reading youre story “the wind in the trees”, it looks like you really are practicing what you preach. not a single pic of a fish!
thanks for sharing the photos. ive definitely already got a bad case of fishing withdrawl. cant wait till spring
White is pretty also. Here is that city river I fished this summer as of last Saturday:

During the week it warmed up a little plus mixed with rain, there was only a few mound of snow yesterday. Today…well, a little more than last week and still coming…OUCH! my aching back!
And this stuff is full of water…HEAVY! Great snow ball or snowman snow, but hard on the shovel. We are now above our expected water level WAHOO! keep a coming and don’t forget Idaho!
You are not going to believe this, but here it is, December 8 and we have no measurable snow on the ground on the Kenai Peninsula Alaska!!! As a fishing guide who also likes to snowboard, I am only dreaming of a white Christmas… So, if you are feeling kinda blue because of achy backs, send som eof that white stuff up here…
Bud, just bought Momma a new digital camera, a Canon XTi. You’re going to have to give Tammy some lessons on how to take all of these wonderful shots.
Please let it warm up so I can go fly fishing. I stopped by one of my favorite carp spots in a small river tonight. Got out of the van and walked through 8 or 9" of snow to see if I could get a glimpse of any fish in the water. Nothing there that I could see at 11 F. I stepped back into the van and told my daughter that she would land some nice carp on her fly rod at this very spot when it warms up. I have the itch really badly, but the chat boards are keeping me company until I can hit the water again.
Rick
In Nashville it is currently 01:03 (AM) and the weather is 61 F (~16 C) and foggy. I expect that Jack Hise &/or WarrenP went fishing on Saturday. I got to work… ![]()
Not that I’m jealous or anything… 8)
Ed
At 1:30 am it’s currently 12 F and light snow. Ed, you make me jealous.
Rick
We’ve got almost a foot in the Twin Cities from the last couple of snowfalls and it’s currently 6F outside. Glad I’m warm inside and playing some internet poker…
Spinner,
Thanks for the flashback. I could almost smell the flowers. And I swear I heard bugs flying around.
No snow here in eastern Washington, but way too cold for these old bones. I miss the sweet smell of a warm Spring breeze.
Ed;
Yep, we fished the Duck below Courtners Mill yesterday. Warren, I and gemrod hooked over 70 trout and a few Blue Gills. Temp. was in the mid 60’s and we even had a brief rain shower. For the next few days it’s going to be in the 70’s so I think we may try our luck on the Elk River today.
P.S. Anyone suffering a severe case of “Shack Nasties” come on down! I have a spare bedroom.
Jack,
I have 3 more working days, till retirement. Close on house here the 20th.
We are going to spend Christmas in Wisconsin, but plan to come down after that. All my fishing gear is already at daughters in Nashville. We were down over Thanksgiving. Still have a lot to move though.
Some of the prettiest wild flower photos I have are from Tims Forge near where your at.
Snow means small stream season is closed.
And closed for 5 months.

I even like the brown grass of early spring better than snow.
That brown grass means season is finally open.
Jack, I’m torn between heading east to fish with y’all, or sneaking off to the west to fish a beautiful little trib of Sycamore Creek in Cheatham County. Decisions, decisions… And then again, reports coming off of the Caney Fork have been glowing. Zebra nymphs in sizes 18 and 20 in black & silver, red & silver, and <shhh> brown & silver have been hot. Of course PTNs (down to size 20, maybe up to size 16 or even 14) etc. Also make sure that you are ready for a BWO or black midge hatch. And, as always, bring woolly buggers.
Give Gemrod a chance to catch a few fish.
If visitors have any questions, the local fly shops are always a good place to start asking questions. In Nashville, Cumberland Transit and Fly South (listed alphabetically) would by the 1st two places to drop by. Game Fair LTD would be next. BassPro is iffy, depending on who is there. And no, I do NOT get kickbacks from any of these places for mentioning them…
Ed
I’d love to have a foot of snow on the ground. It’s better than the ice we have right now … with three more days of freezing rain anticipated. <sure am glad we went fishing LAST weekend rather than waiting for this one!!>
Ive made good on a previous pledge to read all of the other posts before I posted my own thoughts.
So far I have read about the opportunities that are all around the country to go catch a fish.
I am not the best at catching but I do consider myself a hand at going . 8)
Thats the thing !
If you can make it to the crick than you can fish.
Catching just becomes that much more of a challenge.
How many of us have been on the stream when a high pressure system came though and knocked the bottom out of the “catching”. ![]()
If you’ve driven 500 miles to get there do you pack it in or keep fishin’?
Myself, I keep fishin".
Fly Goddess , ,never noticed that your in Utah!!!OMG, that crick in the photo is screeming to be fished.
Folkes, my point being , if you can get “there” put on your neoprenes and stuff a couple of those little hand warmer things in your pockets and give it what for.
That was a mid winter pep talk brought to you from a guy that cant get away for a while do to severly extenuating circumstances ( to wit: Kitchen remodeling  ).
Those sure are nice looking pictures .
Cheers,
Perch
They’ve closed all the Churches; all the special events have been cancelled or postponed; if my favorite bakery is closed … aacckkkk! perish the thought!!!
Guess I’ll go downstairs and wrap the top section on my bamboo rod! The other two sections are already wrapped, and it’s beautiful!!!
We just had a dusting of snow this morning after a week of flooding here in Washington. A fresh blanket of the powdery white stuff sure makes the mud disappear and everything looks clean and fresh again. Were it only true.
REE
Winter scenes are very clean…

But…I will take a muddy plowed corn field…or a brisk late summer morning…

Perch, I envy you!
How I WISH, “remodeling the kitchen”, was my ONLY “nail and hammer job” that was keeping me from fishing!!
I’ve been remodeling an old farm house, (Yes, I’m insane, so don’t ask!), for two years now, here on the coast.
Got the living room all done, one bath and have started on the kitchen and master bedroom. But, thanks to a woman that only God could have given me, she recently INSISTED that; “I take some time away from the remodeling and go south to fish!”.
When she says this, she’s not talking “Going to southern Oregon”, she means “Take off for Belize, after Bones, for a few days”. I was half packed, only had to reline the 10wt, reel with a new line and I was “gooooone”!!
That, was on Dec.1st. On Dec. 2nd., “the storm” made landfall for 48 hours and now my entire roof is somewhere between my neighbor’s yard and Seattle, my living room ceiling, (4 months old), is on the furniture, the carpet, and the dog’s back and the what little I’d already started on the kitchen remodel was 50% smashed flat by a 60’ Ponderosa pine, through the ceiling.
I’m surely not complaining, or, whining about it because the bride and I are physically unhurt and there’s scores more of my friends and neighbors far worse off than we are. But, DAG NAB IT, I was sure looking forward to 80 degree temps, NOT hearing the sounds of my air nailer and table saw for a few days!!
Not to mention, I can now also kiss off the entire winter Steelhead season.
Good luck with your kitchen!!! And, if ANYONE ever suggest to you that "remodeling a 100 year old farm house “IT’S FUN!!”… plug 'em right between the eyes with your hammer!!
Paul
I prefer thistles to snow!
