A flyfisher's code of ethics.

I’m making a list. Name one or two. I’ll start it:
1.As you leave, fill your vest, wader front or your pockets with trash. Pick up after someone else.

  1. Have fun, even if the fish aren’t biting.

Robert,
I sure do like that one…but since you already got it, as a second one we kinda like, relax and take your time…leave “me” and “mine” and “first” at home.
…lee s.

Remember, the yugins haven’t got it yet, they just want to catch’em all, be patient…

Spelling and Grammar not subject to judgement…

Share your knowledge.

Have respect for…your surroundings, your peers, your quarry, and ultimately the impression of flyfishers you leave with others.
Mike

Hold onto your fly. Take a very deep breath and look around. Let your surroundings burn into your memory and be thankful. Even if you’ve been to that place a thousand times. Today might be that last.

Honor is a gift that a man gives himself.

Be who you believe you are.

When fishing farm ponds and lakes on private property, always leave gates the way you found them, open or shut.

If I think I am wrong, I am right.

Learn to read nature like you would a good book.

Harold

Don’t look down on other anglers because they use bait or hardware.

Too often there is a misconception that fly fishers are stuck up and elitist, we are the only ones that can change that way of thinking.

Do no harm. Always leave the stram or lake better than when you came.

Respect your sport; the fish you pursue and those you pursue them with. jgw

Howdy Robert,
Rhea Topping’s book “Rod Rage” is about ethics and a great read. She talked to many guides and whos who to compile the book,

There are several I like
Up stream angler has the right of way.
Angler with a fish on has the right of way.
Give the Wader some room.
Ask before casting to a pool or run of the angler that is there first He has the rights to the pool.
Do on to others as you would have them do on to you.
Leash that dog, Quite the kids or the otherway around.
One more I saw I liked
Fish don’t live in ugly places Don’t make it that way.

one more,
Sometimes you just have to teach/inform/suggest/Show
This is a traditions heavy sport some just do not know of the traditions.
Standing hip pocket deep in a river you do get a different view of what is around you.

“We fish for pleasure; I for mine, you for yours.” -James Leisenring on fishing the wet fly-

Be respectful to other anglers regardless of their chosen legal fishing method (spin, fly, bait, etc.).

Be responsible rearding fish harvest (and that does NOT mean release every fish you catch, some fish populations need thinning).

Chuck Hitt

Think well.
