A few Bucktail/hairwing/Streamers

Hi,
I’ve been tying up a few streamers. The following are my own patterns (apart from the Orange Charm, which is a variation of the Atlantic Salmon Blue Charm).

This first one, the HammLim Minnow (combination of my name and my wife’s maiden name), is probably my most successful streamer fly that I fish. The first day I tried it I landed my personal best (7.25 lbs Brown)! It’s produced a number of browns and rainbows, both at night and bright sunlight! The cheeks on it can be woodcock feathers or shoulder feathers from a male Golden Pheasant (similar chocolate brown and mottled look). The wing is pine squirrel tail, which I think is the best squirrel tail for streamer wings because of how the roots are white, then fade through brown to black tips. Otherwise fox squirrel can be used a substitute:

These next ones I’ve not fished yet, but I really like the look of them:

I call this one a Blue Streak. Some of the local minnows have a purple/blue streak down the side, and I’m hoping this works as an immitation:

This next one I’ve called the GenestaLee after my new daughter, who should be arriving any day now!

And finally, an orange charm (well, I’ve added hen pheasant cheeks to it, but as these used to have junglecock, it’s not really a new pattern or anything):

hey Jeff - BEE-YOU-TEE-FULL ties!

I especially like the HammLim Minnow…I’m going to have to try that up here on the stream I fish - looks like it would also be good for the Smallmouth bass around here in the warmer waters.

Thanks for sharing!

kewl!
i like em.

Hi jimmadsen,

Thanks! I’ve always tied these on size 10 2x length hooks. I know the HLMinnow works for rainbows and browns, so I would be interested to hear how it does on the warm water species, and other trout. I suspect brookies would go for it as they like yellow and red (i.e. mickie fins, parmachene belle).

Thanks flyandtie!

hey your welcome,
you really do tie GREAT flies.

Thanks flyandtie! I think all the flies posted by everyone are great. I enjoy seeing everyone’s style, and how different people interpret the same pattern. The thread on the Stewart Black Spider, for instance, had “the same fly” tied by a bunch of different people and though similar, we all had a unique look to them (even when people didn’t cheat and use substitute materials for the hackle, like I had to!). And that’s just a fly with only two materials! Everyone has their own “eye” for proportions, and such. This allows us to create our own personal styles. I like seeing how other people do things.
