A Dolt seeks information on trout fishing in Ireland

Dr. Dolt, that is. My wife and I are making our way to the Emerald Isle from 20-26 September and my first order of business is to figure out where I should use up my allotted fishing time. Mainly interested in chalk/limestone streams but open to lakes/loughs, acidic freestone streams and sea-trout angling opportunities. Have more gear than I’ll need, just need suggestions on where to fish.

Thanks in advance…

Marty

I’ve wanted to go myself, but the opportunity hasn’t arisen.
Here’s some sites I looked at during the planning stage.

One reason we’ve delayed is that, other than fishing, there seems to be nothing to do other than look at green hills and castles.
Let me know if you find something interesting over there other than trout.

Try asking at http://ukflydressing.proboards.com/index.cgi? . Lots of nice folks, several of whom may have some info to share.

Hey Marty, sounds like a great trip, I would sugest you get your hands on a copy of the British magazine Trout and Salmon, they have loads of info on fishing in Ireland including contact phone numbers. I believe in September you may need to check if the Salmon season is still open but you should certainly find some fantastic fishing on the loughs. Plus they have good estuary fishing in the south for sea run browns and even, I believe, pollock of the rocks.
Here is one link to try http://www.discoverireland.ie/Things-to-See-and-Do/Activities/Fishing.aspx
and here is a link to the Irish central fisheries board http://www.cfb.ie/fishing_in_ireland/index.htm
Hope you have a great time, post some pics if you can, I would love to see some Irish salmon or trout!
All the best.
Mike.
