A day on the water with whales. Not FF

My wife and I went on a whale watching cruise Wednesday. We went out on a boat from Davy’s Locker at Balboa, CA. Only saw 2 blues, a couple hundred common dolphin and some seals. Great day on the water without a fly fod. The first one we saw was only for a few seconds. It blew out water and went down. We waited awhile but never saw it again.

The next one we saw was more cooperative. It came up right in front of the bow and swam along with us for a few minutes.

And Bye Bye

We saw these guys lounging around on the bouy on our way out. It was a great day on the water.

They are awsome creatures. I got to see lots of humpbacks when I fished for Salmon off the Queen Charlotte Islands, but never a blue whale. I did get to see a pod of five killer whales attack a humpback whale though. They kept her up on the surface and circled her, swooping in to nip at her pectoral fins and fluke, just tested her to see if she was injured or weak enough to kill. They kept it up for about 15 minutes then swam on, leaving her is peace.

Your photos are great, but as you, know photos don’t do justise to the grandure of those amazing animals.

Thanks for sharing.

Very cool.

I used to fish the ocean out of Long Beach (So Cal) in a 12’ Aluminum Valco boat. Those suckers were incredible, especially when they snuck up behind you and spouted just of the side of the boat. We’d almost need to run in quick to get a change of shorts  Awesome pictures!

Spectacular! I went on a watch once here in the Atlantic. Saw several right whales. The boat didn’t stay nearly long enough, but it was a spectacular experience nonetheless. Good for you!
