The faces were shaped and finished using the technique I posted a couple of weeks ago. These are tied on Mustad 3366’s, size 2. The tails are very simple, just 2-3 pairs of rooster neck feathers. I wanted to maximize the floatability of the flies.
It is the angle of the flies on the photo - they are both leaning to one side. When looked at on the level, there is less than 1/8" of deer hair under the hook shank, keeping the gape as clear of obstructions as possible.
Fun to tie and quite often, they seem to work better than foam or hard bodied poppers. I think that may be because the Deer Hair soaks up some water, causing a slower more natural movement in the water. Now I feel the urge to tie up a bunch for the upcoming season.
