Decided everyone has it all wrong on fly boxes and I could build a better one… Feel free to critque my design or execution…
Thought I would make some spare spool boxes while I was at it…
I gave these out at the gift exchange for the AFF this past Monday. One receipient never even opened his at the meeting so I have no idea if he liked it or not. The other was more than ecstatic…

Excellent work, Art. Wow!! Is this what results in the land of the midnight sun, and/or the extremely short days of winter? Thanks for sharing.
Kelly.
I LIKE those! I particularly like the Fly Box.
Yet ANOTHER reason to get a lathe! <sigh>
:lol:The “Fly box” cracks me up! I reealy like the reel one, that would be a great addition to any anglers work desk:cool:

Just realized I need to make a base for the fly box… Thinking a piece of bologna stained green would work! Maybe turn it out of greenheart… or a piece of yellow poplar…
Thanks to all

pretty sweet!
Thanks for the kind words… Have to admit it makes me laugh just looking at it and I have been thinking about making it for a week or so.
Beautiful work. I wish I was a carpenter, I love the smell of wood as much as I love working with it but all I can do is to nail to pieces of wood together.
Diptera: Musca Hapalaskamus
Your gonna be famous!!
Totally cool!! Are you making any reel boxes for sale?

In 1977 while working my way through college I caught a bunch of mayflies on the Russian River, one of the best-known AK rivers. There were three brand new species in the bunch. A freind was doing his MS on Ephemera and he was the one that IDed and wrote them up. Seems he named one for his mother, one for his daughter and one for his now-ex-wife…
Thinking if I didn’t tell you you would never know.
Is that the kind of famous you mean?

PS He did catch it from his Major Prof for the “oversight”.

I am sure its from hanging out with too many retired law enforcement types, I thought the disassembled fly might get you arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Beautiful work, I would love to have a lathe, I love making sawdust and wood chips. I haven’t made anything approaching those in years.
Was that an Alaskan mosquito pattern?
