and to think I voted for the men(?) who did this . This is only the Scottish regiments, there are English and Welsh being consigned to the dustbin.
Makes me want to vomit.
I’m sorry, there’s a lot of regimental history going by the wayside.
The Scotsmans story only touches on the history of these units. What they have accomplished and what their soldiers have suffered would fill volumes.
Donald,
This is all too familiar to the United States military. They can disband the unit and haul down her colors but they can never erase the brave history of her troops from the hearts and minds of those who served. The valiant deeds of these units will forever be written in history’s scrolls for all to see. From across the pond, I salute my bothers at arms.
I read the entire article and I am dreadfully sorry for you and your fellow countrymen. There appears to be no more sentimentalists in the British Army and it shows. Fair well.
Amen to what Eric wrote.
Fortunately, my old VietNam unit, the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, was not disbanded, & we all know who those fine Soldiers “uncovered” in Iraq!..that Units’ tradition continues.
Unfortunate that, in today’s world, History & Tradition seem to mean so little to too many. But for those of us who DO still care…We will not forget.
GOD Bless!!
Mike/Mikey
I know just how you feel, my own regiment, The Royal Hampshires was amalgamated in the last round of cuts with the Queens Regiment and is now The Princess of Wales Own Royal Regiment.
All that history and tradition down the gurgler to save a few pounds.
Sad news indeed.
Mike.
I hope you don’t mind dear Donald and Mike, I tipped a glass of Canadian Whiskey to your regiments this evening…I still can’t get ove it. One of my fondest memories of my grandfather was his Christmas toast to " God Save the Regiment" He served in the Canadian Army in France during WWI. I have no idea what regiment he belonged to. Best good wishes and condolences…Jonezee

Jonezee, Mind? no way, I am going to have a wee dram myself tonight and I will certainly toast your good health.
If you ever get down to N.Z. I will take you fishing and buy the whiskey [ Irish mind].
All the best.
Mike.
