Do any of the major rod manufacturers offer a 9-foot, 3-wt. rod? Preferably under $200? Preferably a 4-piece (or more)? I really like my TFO 3-wt. in a 7’-6" length, but wonder if a 9-ft. might not be even better for float tubing. The closest thing I’ve found searching the online catalogs is the TFO Finesse series that’s offered in an 8’-9" 3-wt. Surely someone makes a 9-footer?
Kind of long for a 3wt.
There was a thread about this very subject a few months ago on another board (VFS I think). Two piece 9’ 3 wts are fairly common…I have one.
While I’d never heard of a multi piece 9’ 3 wt there were some responces to the tread listing some manufacturers of the rod.
I thought I remembered Global Dorber as being one but doing a quick check of their web site I didnt find anything but 2 pc.
Good luck.
I like mine…its a great rod…
T&T makes a 9’ 3wt.
I have a 9ft. 3 wt St. Croix Avid series – it is a 2 pc. rod.
AT one time, Elkhorn made one in 4 piece also – don’t know if either one is still made.
GlobalDOrber has at least three 9ft. 3 wt. rods, but all in two-piece. Finding a multi-piece 3wt. for under two hundred might be a stretch.
I checked the Elkhorn web site – they have a 9ft. 3wt in 4 pieces – about $180
To help with part of your inquiry. The first rod I build was a 2 pc 9’ 3 wt. to use with my float tube. It worked great! Lighter and well balanced so I could fish for hours with out a sore arm.
Hope you find what you are looking for, you’ll have a lot of fun with it,
cabela’s lists a 9’ 3wgt 4pc lst for 175 dollars
grumps
I think St. Croix Legend Ultra comes in a 9ft 3wt. That size rod would be great for high stick nymphing in little pockets.
I’m going to disagree with you Gramps, but a 9’er is great for small streams and tubes/kickboats for panfish and small alpine trout. Try a bow and arrow cast with one. It’ll blow your shorts off.
I have had in the past, a Dan Craft FT 9’ 3w that that’s a dynamite rod. Dan Craft also had a 2w FT blank in a 9’er and for the more adventurous a 10’ 3w FT (which could be a winter project)
BTW these are blanks and are fast action.
Sage makes a 9’ 3wt in the Z-Axis and i can tell you without a doubt its the finest 3wt rod i have ever cast!!!
Pspaint and i went out this week end and after using it he told me he has to sell a kidney now to buy one lol

That’s why I said “kind of”. I wasn’t sure. I think of 3wt rods for smaller streams and they’re usually shorter.
Anyway, i’ve been wrong before.

Mr Shock, hmmmmmm. I like it! “Mister Shock” is now the norm, sounds sort of Star Treky!!
This thread has now been piratized and it’s all “Mister Shock’s” fault!! Anyone with over 2000 posts has to be called “Mister”! Being a “Newbe” myself I just don’t understand how anyone can have that much free time?!
PS A 9’ 3 wt is a great rod for float tube fishing!!
Jack,
YEA RIGHT!!! You and I both have the same amount of FREE TIME!!!
Did you know that (THIS IS A SECRET-SO KEEP IT UNDER YOUR HAT!)
I am secretly a computer NERD! Gifted in all things computerized.
Jack, I didn’t want you to find out like this BUTTTTTT!!!,
I hooked MY puter up to one of those fancy Satellites up in SPACE, I think it had a label on it that said something like…Secret Weapon, or something like that!
Well I connected to it’s LASER BEAM and accidently? FRIED your computer!
SOOO! I guess I am IN-Directly responsible for you losing all your POSTS!!
I’d give you the Link for Newbies, but I forgot where it is!
Anyway, I think a 9 ft. 3 wt. MIGHT be a good rod, except I’ve never owned one! 8)
Doug
Mr. Shock;
You should try a 3wt rod. You would find it very user friendly. I have 2!
Now tell me how to clean all the fire extinguisher gunk out of my PC??!!
My condolences to whoever started this post. Mr. shock just sort of ran off with it while we had our backs turned!
