6-pound largemouth on a 3-wt...

… is not what we caught yesterday! But I did get to meet up with a couple FAOL’ers, and have a good time. Went and saw Bluegill222 at his job yesterday and picked up a new 5-wt, heard about the fine-tunings of the FEB hopper, and just enjoyed some conversation.
Then I buzzed down to Bass Pro to meet up with steveks so we could break in said new fly rod on some bluegills! We didn’t end up with the monsters, but we managed to catch a few and I ended up finding a muskrat run and getting muddy!
Bluegill222, thanks for setting that rod up! It was fun to hang out and “talk shop” for awhile.
Steveks, GREAT to meet ya! Thanks again for taking me out. That was definitely a good time. Now I just need to learn to roll cast half as good as you do! Then maybe I can donate hoppers to the sticks too!

Also, I learned that “getting together to tie” sometimes means “sniff glue, giggle, and make psycadelic hoppers”! Hahaha

Zac

Didn’t mean to donate that hopper. lol Wind and weather was lousy, next time you get back this way if the wind will calm down we wil use the canoe. There are bigger panfish in both places. Did you have bad storms on the drive home? If if gets too cold maybe we could get together and chase tying material(ducks).

It was rainy for about the first 50 miles or so. Nothin like rain, traffic, and construction! Haha
I’d love to get on that spot you showed me for carp. That little lake looked like it would be a ton of fun to hit with a canoe!

Zac

Actually we tie an occasional fly at those get togethers, too:rolleyes:. Good to see you again, Kid. Glad you liked the rod.

I haven’t had a chance to try any of those flies you left, but my wife pronounced them “pretty”, which is usually a good sign. Hopefully tomorrow evening I’ll be able to get them out for a test run. I’ll let you know how they do.

He left me a assortment of flies to fish too. If you would like to watch someone beat the water to a froth Just let me know when and where.

Glad to hear they got the wife’s approval! Let me know how they work for you. The flies you guys got will look very similar to one another… don’t be surprised when you start comparing notes! Haha

I’m off to make some terrestrials! Foam ants, FEB hoppers, and maybe red butt ants.

I’ll bet just saying “6 pound largemouth on a 3wt” got more clicks than any other posting on the web today. lol

couldn’t have hurt, that’s for sure8-)

I am sure that there are 6# bass where we were fishing but they wern’t on our lines.

Let me know when you get back around KC. I am in the Lawrence area and would love to find some new fishin’ buddies!

That thread line was a cute idea, I haven’t had it happen this year but spring of 08 I had one that weight 5 1/2# and had a head like a 8# on my 3 wt. and a channel cat as long as my arm in the fall, now that was fun. A 6 - 7 lb. catfish can pull 200+# with 4# line in a float tube, but it’s tiring.
