caught around 20 a piece today on my new 3wt that I bought at the end of last year. local pond was full of um. so easy to catch it was a joke. cast your fly and about 10 small gills attack eachother just to get the fly. had a blast tho! none were huge but a couple were decent. sorry no pix. forgot the camera!
FA,
Glad you’re having fun with the 3 wt…Wait until you get into some 9"+ gills with that rod!
Mike
That’s awesome!
Multiple attacks on the same fly, can’t ask for more then that!
You are one lucky son of a hoo-ha!
Sure wish winter was be over up here.
Take care,
chris
Keep hitting areas of submerged structure…plenty of Crappie in shallow now.
I did the same thing (almost) last night! I fished from 7:35-8:35pm with a 5wt (smallest fly rod I have). I caught 20 bluegills, 1 largemouth bass, and 1 hybrid sunfish. Nothing real big, the bluegills probably max’d out at about 8-8.5". But MAN do they fight!! It was a blast!
Wind was blowing about 23 mph. I tried casting into the wind for awhile, thinking the fish would be on the downwind side of the pond. I caught a couple of fish that way, but I was in danger of hooking myself on the back-casts, and the fly/line was getting pushed back to shore a bit too quickly, so I soon switched to the opposite shore. Plenty of fish there, and casting was MUCH easier!
Great time!
