2012 Goals

So what are everyone’s goals for 2012? Catch a new species? Catch a big fish? Fish somewhere new? Fish somewhere old?

Just get out and fish

Right now, dragging myself out of the house is about all I can manage to plan. Supposed to go try to get a photo of a rare bird late this morning, but it is cold outside. Whine, whine.

For the rest of the year, it sort of boils down to: 1) don’t get killed; 2) catch some fish; 3) to be determined.

With much apathy,
yours truly,
DG:p

Just enjoy it all I can

Catch a trout in moving water today.

I have all the equipment but have never made it out fishing for all of 2011 so, I guess my goal would be to get out and fish and to maybe hook up with someone from my area to fish with.

I want to catch a walleye, paddlefish, coastal cutthroat, Lahontan cutthroat, westslope cutthroat, great basin redband and bull trout on the fly. To do so, I want to catch native fish in Oregon, Montana and Alberta. If I didn’t set goals like this, I’d never fish a lot of the places I’m planning on fishing this year.

My goal is to establish a workable budget that allows fishing, now that I’m retired and on a very fixed income.

Just get a licence and fish, somthing I didnt do in 2011

Eric

Just stay alive, not loose any of my projects and spend time with my family.

Wayne

I guess I should put fishing with you on my list since the ungodly amounts of water we had last year kind of messed everything up.

in no particular order these are my 2012 goals

Spend quality time with family and friends fly fishing and living

Learn to cast better in more situations

learn more about trout in different situations that I might fish them in.

fish for more then trout - like pike, White fish, Char, Salmon, Brown trout, City trout, high mountain Lake trout, Lake trout, Bull trout, Golden Trout, Grayling, Cutthroat Trout etc…

stop thinking about trout so much…

not work so much

Try to spend more time with my FAOL family

tie more and better flys…

take better pictures of my thumbs - with less trout in the picture…

take better fly fishing, catching , casting, and scenery pictures without any dead trout in them…

only keep stocked trout for the pan, not kill any wild trout - on purpose.

do more for the cold water environment.

do a heck of a lot more for Project Healing Waters Canada…

promote world peace and Willie Nelson

go out of my way to like a llama, before I punch it in the mouth for spitting…and being a Llama (this maybe the one I do not get to)

To fish every chance I get, in as many places as possible.

… some moving water …

… and the first of ten trouts in hand today, out of fifteen hooked…

Very cold, slush in the river, ice in the guides, and a great way to kick off 2012.

The goal now is to go do it another 125-150 times before the end of the year. Except for the slush and the ice in the guides, of course.

John

“Jumbo” yellow perch through the ice, 15" crappie, 10" bluegill
Survive til the fish-in
Have fun

In 2011, I learned a new body of water a lot better, started using slip bobber rigging in my jig fishing, learned a lot in general… Fished the mountains in Wyoming for wild, native trout for the first time. Caught my first brookie! Ice fished South Dakota… Set personal bests for white bass (17-3/4") and crappie (14-1/4").

Bring on 2012!

My lousy cancer prevented me from wetting a line at all in 2011. Now that Sloan-Kettering is in charge, things are looking up a little. I don’t know what Hurricane Irene did to me beloved Ausable (NY), but i hear it wasn’t pretty. Hopefully I’ll be able to get up there in May…God willing. So, obviously my main goal is for the tumors to continue shrinking and to actually catch some trout.

Ken

Absolutely wonderful…great way to start off the season. Good for you John

My Goals and Hopes mixed together for 2012.
Not necessarily in this order

  1. Fish Siloam Springs State Park in Illinois.
  2. Fish Apple River Canyon State Park Illinois.
  3. Finally catch a trout.
  4. Roof house.
  5. Add on to house.
  6. Add on to family.
  7. Try not to kill dog. (pooping, peeing, chewing, farting, whining, barking, mangey, flea ridden… aren’t new puppies great…?)
The reason I haven’t been fishing since Dec 15th… “Can we PLEASE play fetch now!!!”

That’s a great troutcicle John!

My goals are to just enjoy my family, and hopefully to get out and wet a line a few times this year. Only made it to water twice last year, so hopefully will better that score this year. Hoping to make it to Canada for Christmas next year to spend it with my family. Time will tell.

Luke, I didn’t know you owned a hedgehog retriever! And I did not see the Idaho fish-in on that list anywhere. Better be there for 13.
