Hugo…Mike…still not sure which you prefer so I’ll go with TT. I enjoyed meeting and fishing with you and the other Mike. I thoroughly enjoyed our day on Stan Coffin Lake gigglin’ with the gills and bangin’ the bass on big poppers! I know the next time I head out to the Ford I’ll be armed with a brace of your ostrich herl scuds! We all who knew Carey Morlan…Linemender…deeply appreciated your bagpipe tribute to our friend, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the bunch. It was incredibly touching, and quite generous of you to help us in remembering our friend. I hope our paths cross agin some day soon! If I can make it to the Montana Fish-In, I definetly will. Till then…Tight Lines and Keepth Thyne Backcast Upeth!
Brandon—Magicbug—
Brandon,
It was an absolute BLAST, for both Mike and I! I can’t tell you enough, just how much we appreciate you guys showing us around. And I cannot say how much of an honor it was to play my pipes to honor your friend. I can tell you that Mike was already talking about Idaho before we got out of Ephreta…pretty cool for someone who just got done with his first fish-in. I think you guys made quite an impression, lol.
So for those of you who didn’t make it…here are some pictures of just a few of the fish we caught.
Enjoy.
Brandon, aka: Magic Bug, with a monster gill.
Me with my monster gill.
One of my nice largemouths.
My other nice bass.
One of my fine rainbows. I was simply shocked at how big they were.
this was my second fish, the first, and biggest, got away before I could
get a picture. It was by far the biggest trout I’ve ever caught.
More to come…
A few more pics from the CWFI
My friend, Mike with a nice trout on a size 20 dry fly hook
with 6X tippet. Well done, Mike.
Another nice bow for me.
My last trout of the day. Not a bad way to end it.
Mike wth another great fish for him.
Yeah, so if you’re wondering if you should have gone, or if you think you would like to make a fish in some time…the answer is a very resounding, YES!
TT.
Rain, rain, go away! It’s been raining for over a week, with the exception of yesterday. Creeks are blown out, lakes are muddy, fishing spots are hard to get to…grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. At least it’s not snowing.
TT.
Here I sit, rain falling again, just like it has been for almost 2 weeks now. My stepdaughter graduated yesterday, so my weekend was pretty full with getting set up for that. I was hoping to get out today for a while, but with it raining as hard as it has been, I thought it best to stay in and tie flies. I’ve invited noMTnet (Tim) over to tie some flies with me later, so he’ll be over shortly. I’m just a little disappointed that I didn’t get to go out this weekend.
Oh, well, there’s always next time…if we get done with the flooding and run-off by then.
Tight lines,
TT.
We’ll be lucky if we’re done with the flooding and runoff before winter sets in.
We’ve had the rain too, and yes, even snow today. Got to believe this too will pass S
Hugs,
LF
That it will, Dee, lol. …It’s just that the instant gratification is really nice. I suppose it won’t be long and we’ll be complaining about the heat. I think Poke 'em might be right, especially if the weather stays the way it has for another week or two, lol. I really have no room to complain, I’ve already done more fishing this year than I got to last year…but I want MORE!!!
TT.
It looks like my fishing is shot for at least this weekend. The roads in the mountains are closed, the road through the park is closed due to flooding! I can’t even GET to my fishing spots! I guess I’ll go out and mow the lawn…take a few pictures of that, lol.
I hope everyone is having better luck than me.
TT
Well, I went out yesterday for about 20 minutes. The water was incredibly high, and very dirty. What was once a concern for my back-cast was where I was standing to cast! It’s going to be a few weeks without any rain before anything is fishable around here with the exception of one or two reserviours in the mountains. A trip I’d usually take without thinking about it, but my wife is due anytime between now and the 4th of July, so I’m a bit hesitant to go anywhere that I wouldn’t have any cell service, or that would be too far away to make it home quickly. Hopefully it won’t be too long and I’ll be stretching my line.
TT.
I finally got around to uploading the pictures from my camera. I haven’t really been fishing in almost a month because of the flooding around here. The creek and lakes are all still super high, and REALLY dirty. I went out a few weeks ago to see how one of our local golf courses was faring. Not well. It looked like a lake with a few islands. The houses on one side were all flooded too.
As for this weekend, well, I probably won’t be getting any fishing done either. I have a baby that is probably going to be here very soon, so I’m not going anywhere, lol. I can’t wait to get some pictures up to show off, lol.
Tight lines to everyone who is able to get out this weekend,
TT.
Here is the picture from the parking lot.
I think you’d have a pretty hard time staying out of the hazard on that one…
Lol, yeah, you could certainly say that. I couldn’t believe how much water was out there. It rained here almost every day for about 6 weeks. That’s where all the North Dakota water came from. It has just been and incredibly wet spring.
TT.
Lol, you could say that again. It rained here almost every day for about 6 weeks…and all the water we got here headed East, to ND. I really feel bad for them.
TT.
Ok, so it’s been waaaaay too long since I’ve posted a “fishing” report. Here goes! My wife and I went out on July 4th for a picnic with our son, and I got to do a little fishing. The creek was still high, but the water had cleared a little and looked fishable. After sandwiches for us, and lunch for him, I snuck off while they were napping for my first bit of fishing as a dad.
I tied on a micro chenille caddis nymph with the tan body, and wouldn’t you know it, a pretty little rainbow though it had an easy lunch. In all I brought 7 fish to hand in just a short session of fishing. I’ll be framing all the pictures along with the flies I used to give to him at a later date, when he’ll be able to appreciate the significance of those first fish.
My beautiful wife getting lunch ready.
My first fish as a father.
All the other fish in order.
I think I’ve reached my picture limit…next post.
Here are the rest of them in order. The attached thumbnail is not one of the 7, it’s from this weekend, I just couldn’t figure out how to delete it.
The gravel bar I was standing on when I was fishing.
This past weekend we went to Wolf Creek for a family reunion. I took my nephews out for a day of fishing on the creek, and then went out with my brother-in-law with his two girls. His daughter Veronica caught her first fish ever! A whopper of a carp. Even though it wasn’t on fly gear, I can still brag a bit…can’t I?
Tanner and Thomas drifting wet flies on Rock Creek.
Ronnie with her first fish ever!
Looking good! I never thought about keeping the flies from the first fish I caught as a Dad a few weeks ago. I do have the pictures though! The flies are at the bottom of the stream now.
Heh
Branhap,
I wasn’t really thinking about doing it until I took the first fly off. I thought I aught to hang onto it, so I did, along with the other ones, and then I thought it would be neat to include them in the framing so he could see the actual flies I caught them on.
TT.
Oh, my word, what a trip to the Madison for the fish-in. I’m going to do a write up on it, so I won’t say too much here, just a few pics for a teaser. For those of you who missed it…well, I don’t want to get on you too hard, but for me, it was, well, epic! I fished the Cynnlock Twisler salmon fly the entire time with the exception of the last day. Yup, we hit the salmonfly hatch on the Madison River…epic!
Heaven, or as close to it as one can come while we’re here.
Tim Nelson’s (Tlerm) 20+ inch rainbow.
My first brown of the trip.
