2011 full Season

I hope I can keep this one going better then the last report thread from SWAB.

Lots of changes in the Fairwx household…

Had a real slow period, when Fischer got sick, he is better now, still not going out with me yet soon though…

Enjoy this…

the weather has finally broken here and we are out of the deep freeze — open water… not naming the river or location for safety reasons - my safety!!!

second smaller Broonie

… on Fischer. I’ve been wondering how is doing.

John

P.S. Oh yeah, nice Fischy, too.

Glad to hear Fischer is doing better. I too had been wondering.

And that Brown is a beast! Good to see you starting another thread. Looking forward to the updates.

Are you kneeling down, or is the water just that clear? It looks like it’s about a foot deep right in front of you, but you’re waist deep.

It is clear for that river but yes I am kneeling, after catching that Brown, only my sixth Brown Trout in Alberta I was all out of breath… and light headed from all the screaming going on… yes it was me that was screaming !!!

Like a little girl if my fishing partner is to be believed , but he fishing with me so not even I can believe him!!!

Had a great outing with Kerry Pitt one of my best friends, no strike against him that he is my best friend and President of Project Healing Waters Canada.

The weather had been nice then turned cold for two days prior to our fishing trip… The OMR only gave us one Bulltrout that looked like the hunchback of Notra Dame and only 18in he swam off really well so here’s to hoping…

Kerry had 3 different Pike steal 3 different streamers from him in 3 consecutive casts… he THEN REMEMBERED he had a Fly from a swap with a wire leader tied in!! He put it on and then caught the smallest pike of the four that showed!!!

We then went to the Crow next day and had a blast but only 5 trout in total and 2 whities great day though…

Crow fun

Great report. I enjoy reading about your adventures up there and seeing your pics. Good Stuff!

This is no joke !!!

I went out April 1st it is the first day of a great stretch of local water, it holds big fish, it can be dicey first day and this year was no exception, the water was high and coloured. That was not the bad part there were 9 guys from a city that is suppose to have the premier trout river in Canada. WHAT EVER!!

If it is so great why are they here on this little (relatively) river?

Anyway that only put a frown on my face for a second as I knew the day was going to be epic!!!

It was not a single fish caught but that was not an issue I had the BIGGEST FISH WITH ME - Fischer and Thor were with me… and it felt great to be out with my fur kids!!!

In case you are wondering NO this is not them

Have been out a few times before the rivers blow out , if it ever warms up and stops snowing to do that!!!

Same old rivers due to new ones not opening up until 16 June… can’t wait…

enjoy these guys, all were caught with small nymphs even THE 24 INCH BULL TROUT… and the Caddis pupa… There are some signs of spring though!!!

Wonderful stuff! Thanks so much, keep 'em coming S

Hi all.

The snow pack has held here, and just north of me they got more snow today, Fri 28 April, so I have been out some, some nice walks along a closed river even saw a Rabbit post! My son and I were over run by bulls he tangled with a huge one and a smaller one, survived both encounters but now needs a bigger Fly rod!!!

The Hawks are back on their nest, I had seen two Bald Eagles on the nest in Late Feb, but the Ospreys have reclaimed it!!

I will have some down time when the run off hits, so will get to tie some flys for the summer fishing…

Tell me you can see the rabbit in this post

Running of the Bulls

I have talked to him about his big fish handling skills, at least he did not try to net it!!

Note: No I will not tell you where we got them and which fly we used!!

Nice report and nice bulls!

I think I spied the rabbit.

Snow just keeps coming. I walked out my front door this morning for my morning run and was greated by 2 inches of fresh white powder. That’s not supposed to happen down here. At this rate the spring run off will take us right into fall.

The lure of a forbidden piece of water, and some non-fish fishing pictures!

A promise of a great Dry fly season

The Boys

The rocks will be watching you…

A cold spring of colours.

It is all about to happen whether we, can fish it or not is the big question… things have been slow here in SWAB, lots of rain and Run off… opening day to the full season is on the 16th lots of rivers blown out but we will see, some are dropping…

This little fella came from way out east of me along the SASK/AB boarder

nice reservoir

Green meany soon to be a nice Caddis

Forgot about this guy… still full on winter then but nice fish for the day!!

Great trip did a lot of panning for Gold ad it paid off, the trip was uneventful from a dangerous wildlife POV…

Unless you count mountain goat hippies

Great food

Great views, that is my son trying to surpass the old man in fish counts, you must count and measure the fish for the squints
