2010 AuSable Fish-in.

This was discussed last night…and Ive looked up that lodge…etc…etc. But I run across a possible problem??

The wife and I ( and pets) travel my motorhome ONLY…and I cant find any campground…etc…etc…anywhere CLOSE to stuff the bus in??

We tow a Jeep so getting around isnt any problem AFTER we get parked?

SO whats the scoop up there? I havent been to Grayling since 1963!!! And Fred Bear was still there.

There are several R.V. campground near Grayling if you need full hookups. Google Grayling Mi campgrounds. There is a national forest campground at Kneff Lake near Gates Lodge if you can get by with pump water and outhouses and several others on the river.

WHAT? No cable TV…how Neanderthal…

I know of three up there. Google RV camping Grayling MI - One’s a Jellystone, one’s a national forest and one is a Seventh Day Adventist campground. With the proliferation of RVs up there I suspect that there are a lot more.

 I have to PASS on one of those and the other would definately have too many “munchkins” for our preference!!

Kneff Lake looks like it may be a “do”…thanks

One warning…the road into the kneff lake campground is terrible. Plan on crawling along at low speed for a mile or so to prevent vehicle damage.

NOW you tell me. The “bus” dont go on "bad " roads…not enough ground clearance…DA**.!!!

Try Keysone landing on the river.

18 sites for tent and small trailer use located on the main branch of Au Sable River.

If thats the road into it…no way that will work.

my coach is only 36 ft long…but its 13 ft high and more than 8 ft wide and weighs 15 TONS!

Hartwick Pines has a “modern” CG…from some pics that looks like it might be a “go”. I’ll have to call them

I have seen good sized trailers at canoe harbor campground on the
south branch… You will probably find some other FAOL people there also.

Found it! Hartwick Pines has water; sewage and 30 amp electric right at the campsite. I cant reserve NOW…but the lady told me to do it ASAP because of the 4th. First week of Feb I’ll book a space.

I pull a Jeep so getting around anywhere wont be a problem.

Hooray, Sully is coming. Hartwick Pines is one of the prettiest places on this planet; a stand (80+ acres) of virgin pines, never met the logger’s saw. What a natural cathedral!
You should enjoy it. See you at the MI-FI 2010.

I was there in 1963…to see my dad in summer camp. I bet its changed a tad…lol

That road looks perfect! You could fish from your front door!

I used to pull a 28’ Teton Travel trailer in to places where the road started like this and then got bad with a '73 Blazer. You’ll be fine.

With my coaches weight I dont dare get it off of hardstand. So if its not blacktop or concrete…I use the Jeep…BUT…I still would need someplace to park the coach

I dont need that critter mired down in the dirt or mud…

Sully;
One thing about this Fish-In. No one is left to thier own devices. The regulars go all out to see that the first timers learn thier way around and get in some good fishing.

At least 12 of us will be staying at Gate’s lodge which is one of the jumping off spots for the days fishing. The Coffee is always hot and if we are really lucky Joe “The Dough God” will feed us ‘from scratch’ English Muffens!!

Last year record lows were set for the area, 36 one morning (but about 80 by noon)!! So pack for anything!!

For us civilized fishermen (read old guy’s) the best fishing is around 9 am. There are some of us that like to hit it in the evening with flys the size of B52’s looking for the big Browns!

Looking forward to fishing with you!

Good choice for the motorhome re: Hartwick Pines.

Just in case you didn’t know it, the lakes at Hartwick have nice big rainbows in them. A float tube would be a big asset. It would also be good to have if you want to walk into Wakely with some of us.

I camp at Keystone. I just have a tent.

Are you talking about these?

Turned them into these Eggs Benedict , that were approved by Jack…
