bought a kit from global dorber first of year, 9 ft 2 wt. finally got if finished with a lot of help from a friend. took it out father’s day, nearly put a wind not in the rod first few cast, hooked a decent size gill. what was i thinking when i ordered a 2 wt? got my rear end whipped!
Jalama - I know the feeling. I built a 10 foot 2 weight. Its a real blast to fish - but if I want fish for the table I usually use a 9 ft 3 or4 weight.

Man, with all the lakes around Columbus you should be in bream heaven. Get yourself the best float tube you can afford, a stainless steel .22 revolver and CCI shot shell cartidges. You may want to think foam spiders, grasshoppers, etc. instead of poppers for a while but as your stroke improves so will the fun.
2 wt , 11foot, 4 piece fly rod. I caught 3 carp with this rod so far. I used a Rio LT trout 4 wt fly line & 5X tippet. I like fishing ultra light. I own a 5’ fiberglass 2 wt, 6’ cane 2 wt, 6’6" fiberglass 2 wt, a 9’ 2 wt also. I never worry about the fish I will meet. I’ve caught bass and other pan fish with 2 wts.
Actually there are 21 lakes in that particular community, all catch and release, barbless, no bait and regulated by the state. It of full of Koi(Carp) white amur, common carp,grass carp,Talapia,Bass,Bluegill,Catfish, and Crappie. That Carp was my wife’s first Carp on a 2wt, and the first time she has ever had to catch anything “on the reel”. Best part about it is is is less than a mile from my house. Some of thes lakes have over a mile perimeter to them.
Goduster, nice fish sounds like a fun place to fish. My lightest rod is a 4 wt, I might have to pick up a two weight

Those koi are beautiful fish (yours too, Bill!) and I definitely want to catch one!
But that Tilapia…WOW! That’s a really nice fish, great markings, and love that dorsal fin standing up!!
Sorry to say, but you picked the wrong 2wt rod. I built up one of those Dorber 9’ 2wt blanks and it was a huge mistake.
It is simply one of the worst casting rods I’ve ever had in my hands, period. It will cast slightly better with a 3wt line, but not by much. It won’t cast a tight loop, and has some nasty tip bounce for a graphite rod. The taper design is very poor.
I don’t like anything over 7’6" for a 2wt, and only up to 6’ for a 1 wt. My 1 wt is 5’5" and a real ball to fish with.
I have a 2 weight 8’TFO Proffessional and just love it.
It is my go to rod and have caught up to 2lb lmb with it and have a blast with larger Blue Gill putting a serious bend on the rod.
