This show will not doubt take some of us down memory lane and what a sweet trip it is! This is an Abu Garcia show from 1956 shot originally on 16mm film. A real treat!:
Did you see the shots of the rod loading and unloading during the double haul? Incredible casting and cinematography! Many thanks to the author of that YouTube page (not me) for the preservation of this film.
You are all most welcomed. I am glad you enjoyed it.
What type and taper of line do you think he was using? Looked like a flat line to me. Possibly silk, oiled nylon or the then new PVC covered nylon core plastic line? Hard to tell from that video.
I love watching old footage of the outdoors like this one. Thanks that felt good. We used to have one of those shows in the Kansas City area produced by the longest running fishing show host Herald Ensley.I don’t think he shot any footage in anything othe than 8mm reel to reel, even in the modern age of 15 years ago.
Thanks Nighthawk, very neat video. Great casting, but based on the movement of his arm, the flyrod looks like it is very heavy when compared to the modern graphite rods.
It’s amazing to watch that fiberglass load up, and the tip of the rod bow so far foward, yet deliver the goods on target. The tip bounce doesn’ seem to distort the loop, but I think it is partle because of the exaggerated(by graphite standards) follow-through at the end of the foward casting motion. Neat film. Guessing the bass fishing portion was shot in Florida? Thanks for sharing that!
