Fished some skinny water with my buddy Dave Fowler

Dave caught 20 trout and long distance released another
15 on his barbless Disco Nymphs and Thin Mint Buggers

Dave scored a tri-fecta today
Brown/Brookie/Bow

I batted clean up and landed 15.

so where does one find a link for the “Disco Nymphs and Thin Mint Buggers”?

somebody posted about a fly they found on the bank, and I believe tagged a name disco nymph on it (one & the same?)

Dave ties it.
The trout liked it today.
He glues small beads to the flies.
Used all sorts of colors and flashes really well.

Man spinner, that is one nice little creek. Thanks for the report and photos.

spinner1,
That top Thin Mint in the link you provided looks more like a dragon fly nymph than a dragon fly nymph does.

Spinner 2 things, first, where is the picture of the Brookie! I like to see those Brookies…
Secound I like your friends style, he uses the same type waist around pack like I do, no mess and stuff with a vest,( I tried that way for along time, looked cool but din’t suit me) I like the wrap around pack thing cause I can just grab it and go, everything I need right there in 3 or 4 compartments, also helps me leave the kitchen sink at home…lol whitch I don’t need anyway… Thanks for the report and pics…

spinner1 …
Seems like your friend Dave’s performance surely isn’t a testament to barbless hooks.
The way I read it he hooked a total of 35 trout and lost 15. That means that the barbless hooks cost Dave to loose 42.9% of his hooked fish.

20 to hand
15 long distance releases.
The hook he tied the disco nymph on
I had a question about it, The gap seemed
too big. He called it a hopper hook. I believe
that is the main reason for 15 long liners. Most of his LLR were on nymph.

I will ask Dave what type of hooks he used to tie Disco Nymph and get back to you.

Dave renamed the nymph to a Trifecta Nymph. He tied this new one on a different
type hook I see.
