Individual taste in books varies as much as the favorite rod or fly.  With that in mind, we hope to review books and videos from the ever-growing fly fishing world, and share them with you.  Books will be the best of all worlds, new and old.  Many of the old books are now available in reprint, and the wisdom contained is timely today.  Others can be found in second-hand book stores, or by mail order dealers. As we find videos we feel are outstanding they will be included. Be assured, reviews are based on what we have actually read, and due to that fact, may not appear weekly.

Moon Holler Misfits Fishing and Hunting Club
By Jimmy D. Moore

I recently acquired a new book for my collection.

As I find that I normally spend more time reading than I do fly fishing, when I finished reading this one I just had to pass it on. It is not all fishing or hunting but a pleasant blend of stories that after being encouraged for 35 years by his wife Jody and five children to put them in book form that Jimmy finally did so. The way Jimmy recounted stories of his own adventures, changing only the names and places in the telling, all are supposed to be true stories. Or so he tells me.

Quoting Joel Marvin, Founder, Publisher and Editor of Sporting Tales Magazine:

"Pull up a chair, kick up your feet and take a mental trip to Moon Holler, Mississippi, to join Hardy, Le Ford, D.L., Uncle Percy and the rest of the Moon Holler Misfits as they tromp the woods and wade the waters in their never-ending search for outdoor adventure, Just like your real-life hunting and fishing trips, you'll share a hearty laugh or two with the boys before you return home refreshed and a better man than before you left. We can all relate to and feel at home with the men in these stories because, after all, no matter what we chase or where we chase it, we are all just 'misfits' at heart."

A favorite from the chapter "You Might Be a Fly Fisherman If" is as follows:

"You have a photo of your 10 lb. Rainbow on your desk at work instead of your family."

This book was a lot of fun for me and if you enjoy good clean humor such as we used to read in a few of our older monthly magazines, here is a whole book of classic outdoor humor. Priced at $10.25 - far less than the book is worth.
