"If you've short, stubby fingers and wear reading glasses, any relaxation you would normally derive from fly fishing is completely eliminated when you try to tie on a fly." Jack Ohman, Fear of Fly Fishing [1988]

LITTLE RINGS

Standing on the bank of the pond offered an elevated perch from which to observe the body of water which was laid out in full display. The late August sun was but a short distance from the horizon and the air, heavily laden with moisture, hung on my shoulders like a blanket.

YOU DECIDE

I had been invited to a fish a pond where the owner was withdrawing water for his cattle. The owner was concerned that the fish would not survive the winter. When I arrived the pond had been drawn down over four feet. The day before went to the pond we got about an inch and a half of rain; most of it in twenty minutes.

FOOD SOURCES ON SPRING CREEKS (part 5)

Perhaps mayfly hatches are the most iconic and captivating images of spring creek fishing. Do you want to fish with dun and emerger dry-flies? Yes, you can and will enjoy. However what is the more effective fly/method to catch more numbers and even bigger trout during the hatch? It's the nymphs that are ascending the water column to hatch.

THE FLY FISHING CHRONICLES OF YNP (part 25)

In this selection I will continue with the information on fishing streamers as related to Lewis Lake and the Lewis Channel.

In a previous article there was information on brown trout, rainbow trout and cutthroat trout of neither of the last two are found in the waters we are currently discussing however the lake does contain brook trout and lake trout therefore I will share the information on their spawning cycles.

AMERICAS TROUT - GATLINGURG

Gatlinburg, Tennessee is not only a hub for the gathering of trout fisherman but is also megalopolis for family fun and entertainment.  Located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains it attracts countless millions of people to its doorsteps each year.

ZENO

There is virtually a Catholic Patron Saint for every trade, country, cause, group and special interest that you can imagine.  What exactly is a Patron Saint?  They are canonized virtuous and holy men and women who are defenders, guardians, intercessors and advocates of those people who are involved with one of the above mentioned movements or activities.

AL'S STONEFLY NYMPHS (from the archives)

This is a long and intricate pattern. If you are a beginner, it may challenge your abilities a little too much, but it will also help show you how to look at a fly from the inside out. If it's a little bit too much, don't feel bad, just come back to it later and try again. By the time you've completed theBeginning and Intermediate fly tying series here on FAOL, you'll be ready to tackle this and more.

HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY

Is the cup half empty or half full? That's an old conundrum which posits a question where both statements are correct, depending upon your perspective. It's said that the person that views the cup as half empty is a pessimist and the person that views the cup as half full is an optimist.
