"Trout are perfectly content with just more of the same, as long as they live, and are no way concerned with changing or bettering their lot." Arnold Gingrich

WILD RICE FOR GAME

Here's another recipe from my father's old book entitled, "Famous Sportsmen's Recipes," compiled by Jessie Marie DeBoth. The book by copyrighted in 1940 by the author but there is no indication that it was professionally published. I am assuming that it was self published by some 'vanity' press.

The famous person summiting this recipe is known to all of us…..

WHEN IN ROME

At 18years old, stepping off of a bus in the Mobile Alabama terminal with only an address for a boarding house in hand on a piece of paper was a far cry from the comforts of central Pennsylvania. Having taken a huge leap, I had enough money for two weeks of boarding house fees, some food and a possible return trip on greyhound should I not pass the welding test for the shipyard. My risk took hold, as fresh out of Vocational school I passed the 1st class welding exam and had a job, and in short order was tossed into the world of pressurized pipe welding on the docks.

WEIRD SPOTS

I had a chance to get out on a Sunday afternoon so I grabbed two rods and headed for a pond. I brought two small boxes of flies to use. I drove to a pond that I am allowed to walk into. It is about a quarter mile walk into the pond and almost 1.5 miles if I drive in. Besides, I would have to drive around a corn field to get there. The landowner doesn't want his corn damaged, so I walk in.

EVENINGS ALONG THE STREAM (part 18)

July 16th, today the winds arose from the WSW around 1:30 p.m. and it blew very hard for a while, and I was concerned that another evening would be ruined, however the winds started to subside in the late afternoon.

PACIFIC SALMON FLIES

The author has guided anglers in Alaska for over twenty-five years, plus Mexico, Argentina and Sweden. She has numerous other credentials to her credit, which is to say that she knows what she is talking about when she authors a book about flies for Pacific salmon.

FLY FISHING IN THE BALKANS (Haloween story)

A friend who knows that I like old fly fishing books gave me one that I had never heard of. It was printed in Belgrade in 1877. .He assured me that Google translation said that the Serbian title was FISH AND FLIES by Humberto Vlasic. Attempts to research the author were unsuccessful. I tried to translate the book using Google translator and found it totally unreadable.

That would be a
P
heasant Tail Mahogany Dun Emerger with 90 Degree Hackling.

There have been lots of cutthroat trout taking emergers on my home water recently, but there is no way to get into the part of the crick where they have been feeding to sample what is in the drift. Since there is reportedly a hatch of mahogany duns on this river this time of year, I decided to treat the trout to a new version of one of their staples.

BAETIS MEMORIES

There was a cold north wind wafting through the trees, scattering the recently fallen leaves along the streets when my wife and I drove home from church on that mid-October day. I quickly changed from my church clothes to my fishing duds, ate a quick meal, kissed my wife good-bye and fired up the old fishing car.
