"What an unveiling of the heart it is, when the angler is alone with God and nature." Thaddeus Norris

WHY WE FISH III

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit a few expositions and activities this past winter. I (thankfully) didn’t do the booths. I mostly gave conferences about my home waters (the Ste-Marguerite River) and Atlantic salmon fishing in general. Basically, the theme of the discussions I gave was that fly fishing for Atlantic salmon in Central Quebec is not just for Pros, the rich nor the famous. It is quite affordable and as simple (or complicated) as one wishes to make it.

STILLWATERS--FISHING THE MIDGE HATCH

How to fish during the hatch when the trout are selectively feeding on a certain stage of the hatching insect can indeed be a perplexing problem. Careful observation is the key to understanding what imitation to use and how to fish it.

I'M A FLY FISHER

I don’t spend lots of time on the FAOL bulletin board and I have not spent any time on other bulletin boards, fly fishing or otherwise. I scan the posts and occasionally make a comment when it seems appropriate, but generally I leave the posting to others that seem to care about such things.

PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES - [Heading for home]

We’re just a little more than a week away from heading the car back north to Livingston, Montana. The winter here in Tucson, Arizona has flown by so fast.

2011 MICHIGAN FISH-IN

The 2011 Michigan Fish-In will be held from June 26th to July 2nd, 2011. Gates' Au Sable Lodge will again be our hosts for this wonderful week of fun and friendship. Come join us and fish on the Holy Waters of the AuSable, one of the world's premiere trout rivers.

SOW BUG 2011

I was able to be back at this meeting for the first time in three years. Things had not worked out to be able to be there the last few years, but this year was different.

CDC AND PEARL PUPA

This is my version of a caddis pupa. I call it the CDC and Pearl Pupa.

WHAT FAOL MEANS TO ME

I started fly fishing when I was 45 in 2002. It was just before a family reunion and my wife, as a birthday present, got me an Orvis fly rod, vest, and all the trappings. The family reunion was being held in Estes, Colorado so off we went.

APRIL SHOWERS

It's been said, and commonly quoted, that "April showers', bring May flowers". And while that may in fact be true, to a fly fisherman they bring something far more important than any flower. What they bring, is the Green Drake hatch.

2011 CENTRAL WASHINGTON FISH-IN

We will be getting together from May 19th thru May 22nd this year. Fishing the Ford, and local lakes. Pot luck dinner on Saturday evening...

EDITOR NOTE: ARTICLE SUBMISSION
If you have been reading FAOL lately you know that we have gone from publishing a new issue every week to every two weeks. The main reason for the change is the lack of new material coming in from our readers and other contributors. Unless we begin to republish material from the Archives or rely upon a couple regular contributors, the Ladyfisher, and me, we need more contributors.

We are looking for all kinds of material related to fly-fishing. We can use how-to articles; fly tying articles, fiction pieces, and humor. We are interested in your experience with certain types of fly fishing gear, places where you have fished, outfitters and guides that you have used, in short anything related to fly-fishing.

Perhaps you are afraid of making a submission or you don’t consider yourself a writer. Take heart, you submit it and we will work out the kinks. It will help me out if you follow a few simple guide lines when submitting material to FAOL.

SAMPLE

Title: Put a title on your article – HOW I CATCH BIG FISH
Name: Put your legal name under the title – By Joe Angler
[Please don’t just give me your FAOL user name]

I prefer Microsoft Word documents but I can usually open WordPerfect Documents. If you use WordPerfect send your article as a Rich Text File [RTF]

You can copy your article and paste it into an email but the easiest method is to make your article an attachment.

You can place images in the body of your article or send them as a separate file and I will insert them. Sometimes an article that contains images is too large for you to send by regular email and you may need to send the images as a separate file. You can also send particularly large files by separating them into two or more parts and send each part separately. Again, I can reassemble them in the proper order when I receive them.

We don’t have any minimum or maximum length so write as much or as little as you want too. I will edit your submission for grammatical and spelling errors. If I have a question about some particular part of your submission I will contact you by email.

We also are interested in images related to fly fishing; scenery shots, actions shots, anything and everything related to fly fishing. We use these images on the front page and you will receive credit for your image if we use it.

Articles and images can be sent to articles@flyanglersonline.com or directly to me at neilmtrv@aol.com.

If you have ever wanted to see something that you have written published for a worldwide audience this is your chance. Your friends at FAOL are interested in what you have to contribute.
