FLY FISHING CUBA (part 3/3)

When I decided to try salt water flats fishing, I had in mind mostly bonefish. In fact, all the reading I did was on bonefish. It never really occurred to me that the area I was going to was one of the best flats destinations in the World.

FLIES BEYOND THE NORM

Fly fishing and fly tying are activities which at time have been surrounded by controversy. I remember reading about and hearing the pros and cons of nymphing with an indicator. I have read and listened to discussions dealing with the pros and cons of using natural or synthetics when tying flies.

THOSE WERE THE DAYS

As time passes we begin to lose contact with our past. This last week I was reminded how quickly time slips away.

His name was Robert Harry Travis. Born in 1928 he was the second son born to my parents.

THREAD AGAIN

Contemplated some thread things as I was tying over the past year. I will probably get labeled as a total heretic for a few of the things that I have finally come to.

TINSEL CADDIS

I have been tying and fishing this fly for longer than I can remember. The first time I tied it up I used a curved hook because I was out of size 12 and 14 standard dry fly hooks. Not only that, but I was also feeling a bit lazy and didn’t want to dress the body with anything, but I did want to at least put something on that might attract the trout, so I went with some red tinsel against black thread. It worked really well.
