WE-WE THOMPSON

William Walter Thompson was a walking encyclopedia of fishing techniques. But, we still call him "We-We" even into his 70's. He didn't really mind the nickname if it was used by a friend although a few less friendly folks had landed on their rumps after intoning that phrase when addressing him.

NOTES ON SAFETY & WINTER FISHING

Many of the rivers in Montana and many other places are open to year-round fishing. The angler who passes up the winter fishing opportunities is indeed missing out on what can be some of the finest fishing of the year.

FLY TYING

When the days begin to grow short my thoughts turn toward tying flies. After nearly a half of a century of fly fishing and fly tying I hardly need to add to my personal collection of flies, but I always see some new pattern or a variation on some old pattern that I would like to add to my collection.

DOOR NUMBER TWO

You may not be old enough to remember an old television show where the contestants had a choice of the prizes hidden behind a couple of doors. Not like the lady and the tiger story where one was likely to kill you, but one prize was always much more substantial than the others - the difference between a refrigerator and a car for example. Pretty big stuff if you were called randomly from the studio audience!

SHORE AGAIN

We had another gully washer with way too much water in way to short of a time. Water ran over roads and a lot of basements were flooded. Not good conditions to try to drive into a pond.

FRANK AMATO PUBLICATIONS

If you are looking for a book about practical fly fishing; how to books on fly tying, fly fishing techniques, and maps and books covering fishing locations from California to Alaska you will find it at Amato Press.

ORANGE HEXEGENIA PATAGONICA

In Patagonia Argentina, where I fish, there's a big nice mayfly, a Hexagenia genus, which produces hatches during spring and summer. (September to March in Southern Hemisphere)

It lives mostly in big glacial euthropic lakes as Nahuel Huapi, Traful, etc. Without doubts is a relative to the Hexagenia limbata, which is very well known in US.

Editor's Note
Now that we are moving into the colder months of the year I hope that some of you will set down to the keyboard and send me some articles. Like Old Mother Hubbard I have gone to the cupboard and when I got there the cupboard was bare. My articles folder is mostly empty. I currently only have a couple unpublished articles. I need patterns for Fly of the Week, how to articles, fiction - in short I need material. This is your online magazine and I want to publish what you want to read but I can't do it without material from you. I will start running material from the archives unless I hear from you soon.
