HOW TO CHOOSE A ROD

As we are gearing up and reserving dates for the 2011 season, a common question seems to be popping up on a lot of forums and e-mails: I'm looking for a new fly rod. Which one is best?

SOLO ANGLER

At one time I saw myself as a solo angler, as someone who cherished fishing on my own schedule-starting and ending whenever I like-without worrying about someone else’s time card, so to speak.

REFLECTIONS AND THANKSGIVING

As we locked up the house in Montana and I pulled our vehicle out of the driveway it seemed impossible that the summer of 2010 was now merely a collection of memories and images saved on the hard drive of my computer.

A BIRD IN THE HAND

The old bird in the hand is worth two in the bush may come closer to reality if you are a newcomer to Arizona and discover (with a fair amount of wonderment) that your new property not only has a lemon tree - now I suppose I really will have to make lemonade - but also has a grapefruit tree.

DRY FIELDS

Since the gully washer it has not rained. There has been a steady wind and I thought that I could get into a pond, so I loaded the canoe the night before and took off early in the morning.

THE ADAMS AND THE ALDER

The Adams, created by Leonard Halladay in 1922, represents a multitude of grayish-brownish insects and seems to have no geographical limit in its usefulness around the globe.

Being Thankful

I got up this morning and the sun was shining and the weather forecast was for another sunny and warm day here in southeastern Arizona. Up north in my home state of Montana the weather forecast is for snow and cold. How thankful am I to be here in Arizona? I don’t imagine that anyone has to ask that question.

How thankful are you? This week we observe a special holiday; a unique holiday that was not established to commemorate a battle or some other noteworthy event but a holiday to provide a national day of thanksgiving.
