BREAKING DOWN THE WALLS

Quebec is a paradise for fresh water angling. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of lakes, mile after mile of rivers and countless streams. We have Pike, Muskies, Arctic Char, Brook trout, Rainbows, Sun fish, White fish, and Land Locked salmon, Bass, Walleyes and Carp.

We also have a few Atlantic salmon rivers. Well, actually something like 117!

SWITCHING GEARS

It hardly seems like winter here in southern Arizona, but even here the decreasing day length results in longer and cooler nights. This is a reminder, even here, that winter has arrived and for anglers this means that it is time to switch gears.

DOWN THE ROAD

I know some people had their laugh for the day when they heard my husband and I were driving to Arizona for the winter, it gets funnier (is that a word?) when you throw four (4) cats and one small yellow canary into the mix.

CANOE BY BUM

It has rained some more. I should have put rice in the garden. We had about 4 inches of rain over three days which is enough that the access to ponds is gone again. I want to fish from the canoe so I head to a lake where this can happen.

Paraprosdokian

A paraprosdokian is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect, sometimes producing an anticlimax.

RED RIVER STRIPERS

When I was a kid we frequently fished from the levees in the Sacramento and San Juaquin River delta region, mostly hoping to nail a nice striper. The minimum size limit for stripers was 18 inches but it was rare that we ever caught one that big;once in a while, maybe, but not often.

COOPER'S HOPPER

Everyone loves hopper patterns!  I don't know of a fly fisherman who doesn't carry them during the summer and early fall months. It’s a 'go-to-fly' during those dog days of summer --- even if you don't see them on the water. Crickets, deer-flies, ants --- they all take a back seat to the almighty 'HOPPER' !
