QUALITY TIME
We all have busy lives. It is easy to get wrapped up in the day-to-day chores and routine. Then we all complain when we talk to our Parents, Kids and friends: "We never get to see you!"
The reality of life is that quality time is not something that comes automatically. Not that is complicated or difficult. One does however need to take the 5 minutes out of a busy week to actually pick up the phone and call. |
NORTHERNS - Information, Tactics and patterns (Part 2)
Many of the books state that pre-spawn feeding takes place in water that is 34 to 40 degrees and that the spawning takes place in water that is 40 to 46 degrees. My experiences on Fort Peck and Castle Rock Lakes in Montana have found this to be false. I have yet to discover any significant numbers of Northerns at such low temperatures.

RODS
How many rods do you have? I haven't counted recently but between the Ladyfisher and me we probably have nearly three dozen. Before we combined our collections I had over a dozen of my own. The newest rod in my personal collection is an Orvis™ 1 weight that I put together from a blank back in the mid-90's. The rest of my collection consists of some bamboo sticks that I acquired back in the late 1960's and early 1970's, some fiberglass rods from Scientific Anglers™ and a few Winston™ sticks, and several graphite rods, mostly 1980's models. |
CANOE TIME
I finally bit the bullet and headed to a pond that I knew that I could put the canoe into. I also knew that there probably would be other folks out on this pond, as there are not many places you can go to launch boats.
I got out to the pond and saw there were three other boats out there. Not a problem as there is a lot of room for everyone. Got the canoe off the truck and put all the stuff into the canoe, especially the paddle. This time I could move the canoe around. |
THE 24 GREATEST FLIES
The publishing world seems to be growing, a new book in from a previously unknown (to us) publisher, Husking Bee Books, Warren Rhode Island. We’ve had several books in this summer from other publishers we have rarely heard from, perhaps they are expanding their reviewers list - but some I know are just plain new. In the computer age I personally think that’s a good thing.

A MORNING TRIP
Morning can be rough. Bodies don’t necessarily want to get up and about when we want them to. The beep-beep-beep cut through my sleep, bursting in upon my comfortable fog, bringing the burn of insufficient sleep painfully to the forefront. I’d been up way too late. Tying up the last few flies, cleaning the fly line as well as attending to a flock of other details best not left until the Great Morning itself.

R NYMPH
When I experimented the effectiveness of the Mirage in fishing, I was so satisfied of the results that, also knowing that it not possible, I deluded of power resolve any situation of fishing with his employment.
It was enough few for return to the reality; a trout that was plundered the emergent nymphs few under the surface of the water and it didn’t deign the Mirage of any attention, to remove me the illusion. |
SWITCH IN NZ
I have had a Switch rod for a while now but have only recently given it a real go, starting with a trip to the Ohau Channel in Rotorua. I managed to catch a good fish just after dark but I paid the price for not casting as well as I could by having a sore shoulder for the next week and quite a few tangles to try to sort out. To say I struggled a bit is an understatement.
