Ladyfisher Practices Casting Left Handed

ANOTHER RICHARD LAKE TALE

Lars and Earl, two septuagenarians are sitting by the fire at the lodge one evening. They have been in camp for a couple of days and are not catching many fish. Earl is not in very good shape and needs help getting in and out of a boat. His fishing technique is to cruise the middle of Lynn Lake, the home lake, dragging a giant Ford Fender attractor with a glob worms on a bait hook.

PALE MORNING DUNS (Part 5)

Figures #1, #2 & #3 show the trout's basic cone (field) of vision and what the trout can see while holding deep versus what the trout can see when holding close to the surface.

NO FINESSE ANGLING

There are innumerable fly fishing article about the skill, attention to detail, delicacy, and precision casting necessary to be a successful fly flinger. One of the great things that happens during the ‘dog days’ of summer is the ability to spend a day fly fishing without all the fancy casting skills and hatch-matching skills that are the hallmark of much of what we call fly fishing.

Publisher's Note

The following is a real letter, I received this past week.

I’m withholding the writers name but I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

FORCED TO IMPROVISE

It is a day off and has rained most of the morning. I was 8 miles from home on a bike ride when I felt the first drops. I got home before the worst of the rain came. We have had 11.75 inches of rain this month and it is only the 15 of June. Maybe I should have planted rice in the garden.

SNAKE RIVER FLY FISHING

Much of the present day writings are simply repetitions of the accumulated experiences and thoughts of other writers, especially writings about fly fishing. Today's writers often restate the knowledge they acquired through reading the older books and articles, never crediting the earlier authors. This one however really is different.

MY PARACHUTE

In the seventies, when I started creating my first dressings, a particular type of assemblage impressed me favorably; the parachute.

I did not know that its design dates back to the twenties, for me it was a novelty, an artificial fly out of the classical schemes.
