A POACHER'S TALE
I grew up in Scotland in a small village called Bridge of Allen.
The area had good fishing waters all around. The rivers were the Allen, the Teith and the Forth. All had salmon, browns, rainbows and sea trout. Loch Leven was not far away but this was the 1950’s and with a fee of ₤1/day, I did not fish Loch Leven often. |
PALE MORNING DUNS
The angler who wishes to fish the spring creeks with a reasonable margin of success must consider the use of nymphs. Now hold on, we know that there are those of you who just won't use nymphs for any reason. That's OK!! To each his own.

WHAT IT'S REALLY ALL ABOUT
Fly Anglers Online is rather an anomaly in the field of fly fishing publications. On one hand FAOL is a weekly fly fishing magazine replete with articles on fly fishing, fly tying and similar fly fishing related material. In addition, FAOL is a web-based bulletin board – a monitored public forum where items are bought and sold, ideas are exchanged and friendships are made.

GOING AROUND AGAIN
I know intellectually that things go in cycles, the weather, the economy, styles of clothing and how many feet of shoreline are exposed on the Great Lakes. Of course there are various fads, hot cars, sports which seem to grab the attention of the public, and there are certain films which strike a chord, music of one sort or another. Give it a few years and it comes back around.

STOCKING DAY
I was asked to check a pond and see if there were any fish in it. I did not even put a line in the water to know there were no fish. There were huge tad poles all over the place. Not just at the edge of the pond, but all over the place. Any pond that has fish in it will not have these critters swimming all over the place. I headed off to another pond to see if I could catch some fish to stock this pond.

BOUNCED CHECK
[This is an actual letter that was sent to a bank by an 86 year old woman. The bank manager thought it was amusing enough to have it published in the New York Times.]
Dear Sir:
I am writing to thank you for bouncing my check with which I endeavored to pay my plumber last month. |
